Sound Distorted

Post by gazt71 »

Hi,

Searched the board for similar but unable to find anything related to the issue I have; the problem is when I capture a video from VHS the sound is distorted, it is as if the levels are too high.

I have tried playing around with any relevant looking settings but to no avail.

I am using DVD MovieFactory 2, with the latest updates applied via a Avermedia EZMaker USB device, connected to my VCR via phono into SCART connector.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Gary

While I'm not sure of a solution, I've had the same problem occasionally. Right now I'm reburning with the audio normalization turned off to see if that will help, but I don't remember if MF2 has that feature. If not, then you have a different problem. I did have a lot of wind in this video...and I captured originally with AVI mode 1 instead of 2. I ususally use mode 2 and have not had problems with that mode. Do you know which mode you used...or did you capture directly to mpg?

If, like mine, your sound lead from your USB device is plugged into the microphone socket of your sound card, try this:
1. Go to the Capture page and select Capture Settings, Capture Properties, Audio Capture Filter and select Properties.
2. Scroll down the Pin Line list to Microphone
3. Click enable, and turn the vertical slider way down low
It was some time ago, but I think this is what I did to rectify this issue.
Cheers.

Why are you guys plugging the sound input lead into the microphone
input?

The audio lead should be going into the "LINE-INPUT" (if you have one).

If you must use the mic input because it's the only physical input to the
computer then in the windows
mixer DISABLE the "BOOST" that is normally enabled.
(That is only a workaround).

The input signal from a vcr/dvd playback unit is way to high of a signal
for the microphone input on the soundcard. The amplifier clips and
the sound is terribly distorted.

Use either the "Line-In" or "Aux-In" on your soundcard(s).

If you are working on a laptop computer that only has a mic input you can
purchase a USB audio device that can be used for recording and playback
at the correct levels. The $39.00 unit from creative labs actually works
very nice, even though I don't care for the creative line of sound cards
their external usb cards are completely plug & play and do work.
