Graininess when capturing

Post by shayner »

When i capture my video, it is grainy and pixelated. It is the same both in low-light and bright-light conditions. Obviously it is worse in low-light due to the camera

However, in the regular light conditions, when i plug my camcorder, Sony DCR-HC36, directly into my TV, the picture is crystal clear.

I have ULead VS10

Any tips on this? If this is not the right forum for this, just let me know

Welcome to the forums Shayner,

Since your Sony is a MiniDV and has the ability to transfer via Firewire, are you using that method to get your video onto your PC? If so there should be no difference since it is just a mere copy/paste type transfer. Do not use the USB, it can not maintain a fast data-flow, and is primarily used to transfer still images. Firewire (Sony's iLink) is intended for transferring video.

You might want to read through From Camcorder to DVD tutorial. Also read through the manual for VS, and it should provide you with some fundamentals on setting Capture Properties. It seems that you may not have the correct capture properties or your project settings are wrong.

With a video clip in the timeline or library, right-click on the clip and post the properties back here. Then go to File>Project Properties, and post them back also.
