Problems Installing PI-12

Cannot Install PI 12!

Post by ianhmoore »

Hi Folks, I seem to have run into this problem too. I've been using PI all the way since version 7 and upgrading along the way. I have now purchased the full (upgrade) version of PI 12 (using the download link that came with the confirmation purchase). However, when I go to install the programme, I keep being told that "There is not enough hard disc space".

I have both my hard drives partitioned, I only use the C: drive for windows files. I've tried installing Ulead PI 12 to both my E: Drive (30 Gb Free Space) and my G: Drive (50 Gb Free Space), however, regardless of which drive I select, I still recieve the same error. I've downloaded the Upgrade files three times, and still I have no joy installing them on the pc. I loaded up PI 10 onto my laptop and used the upgrade files to bring it up to PI 12 and it worked fine. However, since this is my work laptop (and a modest one at that) I really don't want to do my photo editing on it.

Has anyone heard of a possible solution to this problem? I don't have any other problems installing files or removing them from my PC, could this be a slight Bug in the PI 12 installation files as regards how it checks for disc space.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Welcome to the forums Ian,

I've never tried installing PI-12 to another HDD, actual or partitioned, so I'm not sure if PI needs to use the typical ~Temp folder to place the temp files while installing, and that since the default Windows\Temp is on C:, is there sufficient space for PI to use?

You might check to see if you have numerous files in the Windows\Temp folder. If so delete all the files that are inside that folder. Then navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Temp; and delete all the files inside that Temp folder too. NOTE: The Local Settings folder is a Hidden Folder. So you'll need to make sure you can view Hidden Files and Folders. (In Windows Explorer; Tools-->Folder Options-->View tab, scroll down to Hidden Files and Folders, and tick the radio button next to Show Hidden Files and Folders ).

I've split this from the thread you posted to, since the OP of that thread appeared more interested in sarcasm and not getting help. This way your question will be accessed easier.

Still Problems!

Thanks for your help and for splitting the topic!

Even if I try installing PI-12 onto the C: drive by default, I'm still getting the "Not enough space to install these options" error. There's 7 GB free on the drive and I've also emptied the windows temp folder, the local settings temp folder etc etc.

It really does have me perplexed as to why it won't install. Obviously there's nothing wrong with the serial keys otherwise I wouldn't have been able to install it on my laptop (or been given the option to install it on my pc). I even installed some Nokia software to my pc this morning and had no problem. So there must be something wrong with the installer programme itself and how it checks for disk space. I've tried installing it to all my drives at this point, even my unpartitioned drive and still no joy.

It would be really nice to be able to use the software I paid for.

Thanks for your help

Ps: I'd noticed the sarcasm in the other posts, hence I filled in my system info ASAP rather then be subjected to it myself!

Run chkdsk on your hard drive.

Thanks but running chkdsk is one of the first things I did when I had this problem. I've also defragged. Like I said, I have no problems installing or removing any other software, it's only Ulead PI 12 that won't install.
