rendering for you tube

Post by jimzjazz »

There I was pefectly contented, after 6 weeks ago building my own little YOUTUBE template thanks to you, then; BIG MISTAKE! I bought a new PC+VISTA. Confident that I could repeat the exercise I sallied forth; and at this moment I have now become white-haired with the anxiety of it all
I have Divx 6.6.1 installed, starting in VS10+ @'tools' I follow your Instruction set; CLK 'new' select mpeg4, utube(template name) 'GENERAL' 24,00,320*240(frame size) 'COMPRESSION' M4v (video type) then check the new properties (everything looks OK)
Click on ADD, then I am left with file path selection (which will not accept an input) plus cancel and close selections. the net result is my youtube template never sees the light of day.
I then tried forming a CUSTOM template in 'THE CREATE VIDEO FILE' this I managed to do but when I came to 'OPEN' the file (outside of VS) I received the following message

'Cannot access the specified device, you may not have the appropriate permission to access this item.
All of which leaves me totally clueless ,as I am not technically-minded ,and unfortunately my old XP machine has gone to 'binary heaven'
Whilst appreciating that the last mentioned may be a VISTA thing if you can help ir would be greatly appreciated
yours
JIMJAZZ
PS
I never did find the other Templates you referred to further back up the page

Making and Sharing VideoStudio Movie Templates

Come on ladies and gents - lets get sharing!!

:) :) :)
Nice work, Steve! I produce to DVD only and anything for the web I then convert to Flash video using Flash 8. As a result, I don't have any templates to share but this is a great idea!
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

I do not have/use Vista but perhaps you can try the method in my other link:
Making and Sharing VideoStudio Movie Templates

Providing there are no Vista issues this seems the quickest and simplest way to set up a video for You tube and also VEOH.
When I get time - or if some other users would kindly chip in here, I shall try and create more YouTube / VEOH templates that do not rely on the DivX codec.

I've tried many of the suggestions posted on this forum for youtube rendering but I'm still left unsatisfied. I beginning to think it's a software issue.

See these 2 videos for the increase in quality I'm trying to achieve:
Old
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tUyIe-eMuI&eurl=

New
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl9fLyOMBss&eurl=

I asked the guy that made these how he got such improvement and he just said it was an upgrade in iMovie from Apple. Is it because VS10 doesn't have h.264 compression and iMovie does?

Here's one of my movies: http://youtube.com/watch?v=8YYfbR19QZk It's very pixelated/boxy.

I installed the thing from divx.com.
When I click New on the Make movie templates manager screen (10+) I get another window named new template. I assume i leave it as avi and type in the new name (there is an mpeg4 option which i assume is not the same thing as divx).
I make the changes as specified on the general tab. The youtube website recommends 30 frames per second. why do we set it to 25?
In the avi tab i dont get the option xvid mpeg-4 codec. All i get is divx 6.4.0 codec (2 logical cpus). I assume I select that one. The audio format must be mpeg3 as specified?
Why do we set the interleave and pack every 1 frame in the advanced tab please?

Quite a few of the answers can be found here:
http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/codec/guides/ulead.php

Regarding the frame rate, any change in frame rate requires either the addition of new previously non existent frames (PAL to NTSC) or the removal of surplus frames (NTSC to PAL). When you stop and think about that for a moment you will realise that this leads to unavoidable jerkiness. Despite the suggested 30 frames per second on the YouTube Site you can work out for yourself the likely result.

Regarding MPEG4 / DivX and Xvid.
These are all very similar formats ideally suited for sharing video across the internet. They all produce a very small file size but retain high quality. It is a matter of users choice which to opt for. It is rather like purchasing a car - if there was one car that suited everybody we wouldn't have lots of companies like Ford, General Motors, Rolls Royce, Skoda and so on (Not suggesting anything wrong with any of those mentioned - in fact my car is a Ford).

"interleave and pack every 1 frame in the advanced tab" is rather like setting the quality slider to 100%. This is more important due to the more compressed file sizes generated by MPEG4 / DivX and Xvid. It is a means of increasing the sharpness and quality of the audio/video.

vidoman wrote: One of the problems with using DivX is that it is a highly compressed format. If you view it without further compression the quality is quite good. The downside with YouTube is that it will recode the video to FLV (Flash Video) to be streamed via their servers.

So that means that the DivX video will be recoded and as you know, suffers a tremendous loss in quality. I don't know if they accept FLV files, I need to try it I guess.
YouTube recommends
* MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format
* 640x480 resolution (* most updated recommendation)
* MP3 audio
* 30 frames per second
I've also noticed that after YouTube processes the file, it is not 640 x 480, but ends up being 425 x 355. So start with the highest they accept or recommend, 640 x 480.
Edited
I've managed to upload an FLV file to YouTube. I converted a DV (avi) file to FLV. It's not ready to be viewed yet. As soon as it is, I'll post the results.
I ran about 4 different files up to YouTube: It appears to me anyway that the DivX provided better quality, faster turn-around. I was surprised that the FLV results were that poor. However it posted almost immediately.

tried that

Post by philthyphil »

Hi,

I tried that with one of my videos...

Uploaded it all fine and when I went to play the video on YouTube, the quality was so bad that you couldn't even see what was going on?!?!

Is there maybe some 'customized' settings that i can chose from to get quality videos onto YouTube?

Thanks

tony62 wrote:You Tube now lets you upload HD videos and they can be viewed that way by clicking a button at the bottom of the video screen that says: " Click here for High Definition".
Many blogs explain how to do this by using different video programs. I would like to be able to do it in VS.
You Tube is not limiting you to 100 MB, it is now 1 Gig.
You can use higher Bitrates up to 2000.
Video size now can be 640 x 360 or higher.

Here is an example I found. Make sure you click it from Standard To High Quality.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ujo24UbEpWs

Here is an example tech vid of how to do it in other programs:

It may not be HD as we are used to on our HDTV but any improvement is better than (their so called) Standard Definition.

NTSC digicam to PAL TV

Post by dumbletore »

Hi sjj1805

Your instructions on the tempate manager has been most helpful.

I have bought a digicam from US, so it records in NTSC format. So, now, when i follow your suggestions, there is only sound on my video, and no image.

I am trying to make a "create video file" in divx 6.8 codec for a PAL tv(4:3). I live in Denmark europe.

So how sould i change settings for this to work?

Kind regards
Tore
