gotta tell you, how can a novice answer questions like this?

Nature of the problem
As explained

Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?)
If its on the camcorder, how do i know what format it is?
similarly, apart from minutes duration, this doesnt make sense

What devices are involved and their mode of connection?
I Have no idea what you are asking me here!!

Project Settings
Ditto

Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD)
Output from where? the camcorder? it comes out as an AVI right?

PAL or NTSC
Easy, im in the UK, so i guess its PAL

Error Codes (if any)

Thanks for your help, but i`m gonna throw the towel in, this software isnt for me

You might need to read your camcorder's user manual. You might have a MiniDV camcorder that records to MiniDV tape in DV format. You might have a camcorder with a built-in hard drive that records to MPEG-2. You might have a camcorder that has a built-in DVD burner...

You might have downloaded the file from the Internet. You might have an analog video-capture device that connects between your VCR (or TV) and connects to your USB bus. You might have a TV-tuner card installed in your computer...

Yeah, digital video is not easy. And, everybody is using different hardware, different software, different file formats, and has different project goals. This makes it very difficult to give simple step-by-step instructions that work for everyone. It's going to take your some time to figure-out a procedure that works for you, and if you are not prepared to make this one of your hobbies, you are probably not going to enjoy all of the time and effort required. :(

I just hope you have the free trial version or an "SE" version that came free wth your hardware.

OK - I understand. Please try and describe the problem you are having and we will try and help. Obviously we may need to ask a few questions.
The 'Please Read this Before Posting' is an attempt at preventing people coming to us with questions along the lines
My car wont start any idea why?

Obviously we need a bit more than that to go on so all I ask is that you describe in as much detail as you can what the problem is, where the video you are working with originated from and how you managed to get it into your computer. What did you do with it then - as many steps as you can recall up until the point that the error occurred.

We will try not to bite your head off.

Nature of the problem
As explained Where??

Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?)
If its on the camcorder, how do i know what format it is? Easy, look in the manual. Is it a MiniDV tape, MiniDVD or HDD??
similarly, apart from minutes duration, this doesnt make sense to you it may not. Likewise are your explanations not making any sense to us.

What devices are involved and their mode of connection?
I Have no idea what you are asking me here!! VCR, TV tuner card, analog or digital video camera?? Did you capture via firewire, USB, capture card etc.. come on, are you at all interested in this??

Project Settings
Ditto If you don't know what your project settings are and couldn't care less, I suggest you keep watching TV. Yhere is nothing you have to do except switching the darn thing on

Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD)
Output from where? the camcorder? it comes out as an AVI right? Does it?? What type of AVI?? DV-AVI?? That was actualle the question. It could also be mpeg4, DivX, Xvid, MOV. All these come in an AVI wrapper as well. If it is a DVD cam it may be VOB, DVD-VR etc. Do you expect us to keep guessing at this until we hit the right one??

PAL or NTSC
Easy, im in the UK, so i guess its PAL

Error Codes (if any)

Thanks for your help, but i`m gonna throw the towel in, this software isnt for me

This is your 3rd post. If you are ready to throw in the towel already, I tend to agree with you.

Many many thanks for the help on here, you guys certainly know your stuff, but to be honest I have enough PC related `hobbies`. (photoshop/ebay/youtube/games etc)

I was trying to edit a film I made, of Route 66 in the US (obviously, lol)
I used a Sony Mini DV camcorder (DCR-PC8E PAL) , I have over 90 minutes worth of footage, but its took me 3 days to make 13 minutes of editing, due to the amount of stuff to learn, a couple of months ago I bought a Sony HD DV camcorder (HDR-HC3 HDV 1080i), when i picked up my copy of ulead.

Previously i just copy the film onto the pc then convert it using divxtodvd prog.

But like I say, many thanks for your advice

How many days did it take you to master PhotoShop? I have been using that for 8 years and still don't know everything there is to know.
