DVDMF 6+ What's the verdict?

Post by progrocktv »

Hi all,
I have 5 working pretty well and was wondering if 6 would be worth risking a try? I know how unstable some of these can be so I don't want to take any chances :?

Also can I install the trial version of 6 without uninstalling 5 in case I have problems with 5?

Basically I'm recording DVDs with a stand-alone and importing them into DVDMF to add menus and such so I don't have to worrry about capturing or anything like that, but I like the sound of the editing features of 6 so I can do some minor editing.

It's worth it to try the trial. It's fully functional as far as I could tell. I installed it before installing the MF6+ retail.

I have MF6+ installed now (full version). On my machine it runs better than 4 or 5. Has more features for HighDef (field order etc). Still playing with the new edting module. You can switch the view of the timeline by clicking on one of the icons, sort of like VS10 but smaller screen view.
I just finished rendering a hd-mpep2 to a new file. Recorded the original, muted the original vocal track & replaced it with some music. Then used the export module to create the new file. Plays good.

Already used it to import some videos from my panasonic dvd recorder. Trimmed them down and exported them. Worked nice.
I like the addition of being able to select the "Fielding" over previous versions.
So far I like it, use it and ready to un-install version 4. Never use 4 anymore.
MF6 did install a divx codec, I had to remove those files in order to have the program see my Divx 4.5 Version (or whatever the latest version).
I just did a search *divx*.* on the MF6 folder, then moved those files to a backup directory. After doing that MF6 saw my new version of Divx and I created a hd-divx file after launching MF6.

Another new feature is when you load a new video file MF6 asks you if you want to change the 'Project Settings" to match the inserted file. Nice feature.

I used it for the first time last night and I was impressed by the new SmartScene (For the Title) and also a text only menu (For the chapters) that I used where the text glided in from the right.

When I get the chance I must inspect the templates with PhotoImpact to work out how they did that. It was really cool.

What may be better for one user may not be the one considered better for another. Different users have different needs.

You should download the 30 day free trials of both programs and then compare them for yourself.
