You could try adding your logo to the OVERLAY track and then use Chroma Keying which will mask everything around the actual Logo and also allow you to make the logo semi transparent.

Read the section on Overlays in the User's Manual, starting on page 86. That chapter also talks about creating clips with transparent backgrounds and chroma-keying.

No.
When you drag your logo onto the OVERLAY track you will see a 'menu' on the right side of screen (if you are using the default UI layout) and there will be two tabs named EDIT and ATTRIBUTE. Select Attribute (tab) and then click on Mask and Chroma Key then select Apply Overlay Options. You then have to select a Similarity colour and set Adjust color similarity.
I can't help you any more except to suggest that you just try different settings.

Just a suggestion here. Please be aware of screen 'burn in' for plasma and maybe LCD screens when an images is left of the same place on the screen for long periods of time which can cause a permanent image left on the screen.

Why be so restrictive? It happens with CRT screens too..

Yeh but they (CRT screens) are a lot cheaper than plasma/lcd flat panels.

I don't think with video that is much of a problem any more. If that was the case then my TV would have the Disney "ears", permanently etched onto it. About every TV station, cable channel, etc., use this type of watermarking nowadays. In fact it is almost impossible to view television without those. So far my TV has had no ill effects from it, and it is over 15 yrs old...

Hi Ron,
I bought a plasma a year ago and I'm sure that I read somewhere (particularly regarding plasmas) that you should not allow the smae image/scene to be displayed on screen for long periods of time.
I guess a watermark should be ok though.
Disney ears....mmmmmmm! What can I say?

Ron let me assure you CRT of recent manufacture are still subject to burning after as little as a year or two.
Some makes are better, but if you turn the brightness a little high it comes surprisingly fast. I have several repaired per month and I don't need my glasses to know what they watch most.

About the Disney ears I don't know them but I suppose they are black.
The higher the impact on the phosphor the more damage it does.
Dark logos don't leave a trace, white are the worst.
Of course it's better now than 30 years ago when all light was on same monochrome pixels.

I do agree that a watermark should be OK, what I personally do to be less obstrusive, is put the logo at the beginning of the video, just after the opening/title sequence, and then over the final effect, but not during the whole video.
This my understanding of it.

Most of the logos used like the "Disney Ears" (I have a granddaughter that loves watching the Disney Channel), are transparent watermarks. You can see the show or movie through them. I would agree that a solid logo or watermark may cause screen burn. I would never do that to a viewer. A solid watermark is IMHO unprofessional. However I just glanced at my TV, and one of the local news channels is using a solid logo, like I said unprofessional. But they are known for using as much of the lower third as possible, filling it up with as much information that they can possibly squeeze in...;)

Ron
You had me worried. I'm glad that you qualified the Disney 'ears' by admitting it is your granddaughter who watches.
