Your video probably uses Dolby audio. If your version of VS9 has the letters SE after it, then it is a crippled version which is distributed free, usually with a piece of hardware or as a promotion.

And I am afraid Dolby requires a fee for each time it is included in a program. So companies distributing their crippled software free are hardly likely to include something they have to pay for...

Thanks Ken
yes it is a SE version, how to upgrade, or is it worth going after the full 10

Don't think you can upgrade to the full version of VS9 any more. You might also want to hold off a bit upgrading to the current Version 10+ as a new version 11 is imminent (though I have no idea of an exact date -- it's just that the new versions in the past have usually come out in the late March/April period).

In the meantime, you could try downloading a free AC3 filter which you can find by doing a search at www.videohelp.com It should allow you at least to import the video with audio and it should play. But when you edit it and produce a new video, you have to choose one of the other audio formats (LPCM or mpeg layer 2) as the filter will not output in Dolby -- it only accepts input.
