WinDVD doesn't appear in Windows Explorer

Post by jansbob »

When I click on a video file and a window pops up saying "Open With". Intervideo doesn't appear as a choice. I then "Browse" for programs and choose WinDVD, but it still doesn't appear in the choices. Any ideas?

1. Do you have Administrator rights?
2. If so, when you choose WinDVD from the browse, did you check the "always use this program for this type of file?" You don't HAVE to reboot, but since you just made a registry change, the new registry doesn't take effect until you reboot.
3. If the video file still doesn't default, try the 'folder options", "file types' (in any Windows Explorer window). Scroll down until you see the extension in question for the video file. Select it. Reboot.

If you've tried all these and STILL can't get the video to run, you are either trying to use WinDVD on a video format it does not natively support (refer to the 'QuickTime' and 'RealPlayer' notifications during installation of WinDVD.)

The last step is go to the Windows Knowledge Base and search for 'chaning file associations.' Or, you can use the Windows Forums and post the question on the 'General" forum -- may be easier than sifting through the Knowledge Base.
