Problem converting VSB to AVI-horizontal lines

Post by christina »

Hi-I took a VOB file, edited it for just the 30s clip that I wanted, and saved this as a VSB file, which all went well. Now I need to save this as an AVI to use with another program. To do this, I go to share, select custom, and choose AVI.

When I do this, the resulting clip has horizonal lines/bars whenever there is motion on the screen. I read a section about field order that seemed to describe the problem exactly, so I tried all three field order options. Using lower field seems to help, but definitely not fix the problem.

I noticed that when I select "project" and play the VSB file, the lines aren't there, but if I select "clip" and play the VSB file, the lines are evident. In the AVI file, selecting "project" makes the horizontal lines appear larger more like a bar.

The AVI file is currently uncompressed. I would like to compress the file. Is there a way to do this? When I try to click the AVI tab under options when saving as an AVI, the program crashes every time, although I can use the other tabs. I was wondering if compression options might be under that tab?

Sorry for the novice questions-I would appreciate any advice!
