Hello. I am using PhotoImpact 11. I am trying to create images with transparent backgrounds for importing into the game Second Life as textures. I have tried saving in every format accepted by SL: jpg, bmp, and trg, but whenever I upload the image to SL the transparent background is converted to opaque white. Help please?
Thanks!

Creating Transparent Backgrounds in Second Life

Can you use PNG format? When I create a transparent image I create a new transparent file. Then when I am done and ready to save, I have it without merging, which allows me to have a transparent image.
Now, I will point out that I have PhotoImpact 12. So, the terminology may be a little different in PI 11. I did a PI 11 tutorial and the biggest conflict I had was that in PI 12 a lot of the features had different names. That made the tutorial very confusing.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum, comic emp.
BMP, JPG and TRG files are not designed to have transparent backgrounds. To have transparent background for 3D model texturing, you need to save as GIF, PNG or TGA.
It's the format you use, not the software.
I think you should check with SL support to know what image formats you should use for 3D model texturing, especially for transparent backgrounds.
Hope this helps.
