DVD Movie Factory Does Support AVCHD files from Panasonic SD

It is not necessary to connect the camera to the computer. You do need to copy the exact folder structure from the SD card to the computer if you do not want to read the files using the camcorder as a card reader, or you can just insert the card in a computer card reader. Then (copying and editing the post on the Sony AVCHD posting):

1. Start up DVD MovieFactory, and click on the IMPORT DVD or DVD-FILES icon (the little CD with the plus sign next to it)

2. Click on the "IMPORT DVD FOLDER" button, then click on the PLUS sign next to the folder where you copied the set of sd card video files from the camcorder (or the original card). Now click on the "AVCHD" folder that appears, and click on the OK button. It will not recognize the video files if they are in any other folder or let you say OK if you point the program to the sub-folder under the ASVCHD folder whetre the files actually are..

3. A complete list of your AVCHD files will appear. You can then select them individually to import to the timelime for editing.

Hi,
New feature in MF6+: Match Project Settings:
After you convert the AVCHD video to a hd-mpeg2 video (on your harddisk) and have started a new project with an empty timeline. As you insert the hd-video into the timeline a pop-up screen appears asking "Do you want to change your Project Settings" to be the same as the video you are inserting.
Most of the time you answer YES to this pop-up screen unless you plan to change some of the properties of the video. This way you don't have to manually set the project properties (previous versions of MF one had to do this manually).
This will make working with the video go much faster.

Another one of MF power features is using the "FAST EXPORT" feature.
After you trim or multi-trim a hd-mpeg2 file you can quickly create a new video by going to "EXPORT" -> "FAST EXPORT".
Then you can insert the trimmed clip.
Creating new hd-video files is very fast using this method.

There are also some nice features within the Multi-trim Module.
After picking the In/Out points a thumbnail is created on the timeline of the trimmed video. You can do this many times and make many trims.
While Still in the Multi-Trim Module if you highlight one of the clips and click on the "Left Arrow" <-- you can export just that short little clip.
If you want to Join any of the small clips highlight them (holding down the CTRL key & selecting with the mouse) and clicking on the "Left Arrow" <-- will export the marked clips as one video file. Nice tool when you want to grab some small clips.
The complete Multi-Trimmed clip can still be exported from the main timeline using the "Fast Export" feature.
