DVD MovieFactory 6 - DOES Support Sony AVCHD files!!

Hey all
Thanks so much for helping us/me to get the clips converted.
But I have a problem:
My converted movie stutters! And it does not run smooth. And because of this there is a desynchronisation of the movie and the audio.
If someone could be so good and take a look to the movie i uploaded. Sorry for the quality. I tried to keep the filesize low:
2.6MB SR1-Stutter-Clip
But: The stuttering is also in the preview window of moviefactory. So it seems to be a bug at the codec. What do you think?
Do I need an another codec?
But if run the movie with the Sony Motion Browser everything is fine.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks!

I take it you imported that clip using the MF6 import feature then exported it out as a divx file from the MF6 timeline correct?
I wouldn't advise downloading codecs to install on your system.
This studder/jumping appears to be approx every 2 sec's correct?
In your camcorder do you have a protection mode for the video. In other words some cams have a protect feature so the video can't be erased by accident. I've come across this studdering when the protection feature was activated in the cam or the single video was protected. The video may be protected, you can still import it though.
Is it just this one video or all your videos.
If you record a one minute video now and import it does the video studder every 2 seconds?

You are all right. I imported the clip using mf6 and exported it from there as a divx movie.
How could I turn off that protection?
All of my videos have that problem...
I recorded right now a 10 second clip and after i imported the movie into mf6 the movie already began to studder in the preview window. So it would not make sense to go ahead and export that 10 second clip. Because the studdering in the preview window i'm really sure the studder would also appear in the exported movie.
But the playback on the camcorder works fine.
So what is wrong here? I'm quite sure that I have a wrong codec installed.
Hm or perhaps an bad interaction with powerdvd 7? Does someone know how to check the installed codecs and how to clean them up?

As far as I know PowerDVD 7 doesn't share it's h264 codec.
I would be careful installing codecs,, they can really blog up the video system. Maybe you installed a H264 codec on your system prior to Mf6 installation?
The download of MF6 de-compresses into another folder for installation.
In that folder under this directory is the installation of the directx.
Your_Uncompressed_Files\ISSetupPrerequisites\{9E7BC892-4D5A-426E-9966-CF94D94D3057}\DXSETUP.exe
I would re-install directx and reboot.
Sounds like MF6 may be having a conflict with another universal H264 Codec. Don't know if you installed any other codecs trying to get your cam to work prior to the release of MF6+.
It may or may not be the protection I mentioned. You will have to read the manual on that. Mentioned it because I have come across it and it's hard to find.
Computers can cause headaches...nasaeu.....vomiting... if you experience these effects.....etc.

I installed MF6 on my laptop and tried to playback the clips there. And: It studders!
I'm getting a bit crazy. What's wrong? Is my cam broken?
But something I noticed: In MovieFactory it does only studder if I move the slider with the mouse. If I press play it doesn't studder. I tried it now with LP - Quality so I was able to playback the file smooth in MF. But after the exporting it does studder!
Please... Help me. What is my problem? You all haven't the problem? After you export your HD clip. Are you all really able to playback the clips smooth and without any studder??

The HDR-SR1 is NTSC 29.97 Frames Per Second
The HDR-SR1e is PAL 25 Frames Per Second
It's also in your users manual.
When installing MF the program asks you where your live and the standard used by your country.
It's possible you missed that and set your program up for the wrong standard.
Take a break

Limbi,
When you import your videos from the SR1 and can view them in the importing module when you click on the videos checkbox in the bottom box the attribues of the video are displayed.
So you can view the frames per second in that window.
When the video is imported and on the timeline you click on the "I" (information) icon (on the left side to also display the videos properties.
The first thing you should be doing is exporting your AVCHD files to an editable format such as hd-mpeg2.
The test file you posted has a Frame-Rate of 25fps.Oh no...
Then I used the correct one. So it was not the fps.
Hm then maybe an interlacing problem?

DanMartin,
You can't load the m2ts files directly into any editor without it's corresponding index file which is on your cam in it's AVCHD indexed format.
Not sure exactly how this works but appears that the elementary video/audio streams are still wrapped in the mpeg2 transport stream container. Hence the file extension of m2ts.
The first & second posts in this thread explains how to import the files and convert them so you can work with the videos. At this time native editing in the AVCHD format isn't supported (not by anyone else either that I'm aware of). The AVCHD files need to be converted into a more editable format, preferable hd-mpeg2 format.
Certainly doesn't make sense to me that Sony would make these cams and supplies the software to convert the videos to DVD and not their equivalant hd-mpeg2 format. I think it was a marketing thing.
Personnally my vote is still out with respect to the quality of the highdef these cams record. I think many of the writeups & ads are biased.

Yes that would be correct fps because I live in switzerland.etech6355 wrote: The test file you posted has a Frame-Rate of 25fps.
But that's confusing.
If I look to the bottom box where the attributes of the video are displayed it stands that the clip has 25fps. But the info button says that the video has 29.970 fps.
Take a look at these situations and screenshots:
The bottom box of the importing module:

The info button:

If I click the gear button:

So. What's the deal here?
The TV System at "F6" is set to PAL / SECAM.
Looks to me like that's where the studdering is being generated.
Not relevant to the frame rate but when you do get it working correctly under Project Properties change the settings to match the video.
Such as "Field Type" = Upper Field First (yours displays lower).
So when trying to preview a file your frame rate is wrong & the fielding is wrong.
Maybe try re-installing again and make sure the country is set to PAL.
When you start MF6 directly (bypassing the launcher) you can set the Preferences(set the country format pal/ntsc) & specify the project "HD-DVD".
I tried to simulate your problem by starting a project in PAL mode, then importing a avchd mini-dvd written from a NTSC cam.
The properties of the video displayed correctly.
So, something is up. Yours is 25fps but after importing displays 29.970
I would un-install MF6, clean up temp file etc.
Remove this directory to delete your personnel cache files that MF6 creates: This is a hidden folder.
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_PROFILE_LOGIN_NAME\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\6.0
Then re-install. I would also contact ulead tech support and send them the photos.

Limbi,
You need to fill out a tech request form and I would also contact this person.

tobieopenshaw@ulead.com.tw
Also mark/link your posts so techs can read it.
I would tell them MF thinks the file is 29.97fps when it's really 25fps.
And the video studders, along with the pictures.
LOL
