Sound is Muted in Analogue Mode

Post by Arthur494 »

My six-week old PC came equipped with Hauppauge WinTV 88x. I then invested in an upgrade to VS10.0.0110.0 PLUS.

When I set the VS capture source to Digital it happily finds all the Freeview channels and they work fine.

But, as I want to convert from VCR to DVD as I was doing on my older PC, I need to use Analogue capture. This is where I have problems.

I get a good picture, but no sound. And everytime I change the source (I also have the option AVI T200 AVStream) or the Format the standard Windows (or maybe sound card) warning "Mute" appears in large green letters.

Can anyone please help me to get my sound?

Many thanks

some capture cards are not equipped with an audio entry. Does your have one?
Otherwise you need to connect the audio output from the VCR to your audio card line input.

If you did, did you check that your Windows line in audio (audio mixer) is not muted? They usually are when not used to prevent electrical noise.
This my understanding of it.
I have been proven wrong on several occasions in my life. It's not going to improve.

Version 9 of VideoStudio would quite happily work with the Hauppauge TV cards. Version 10 does not work with the PVR series of Hauppauge cards.

If you have a HVR (Hybrid) card then VideoStudio 10 will work with the digital channels (Freeview) but not the analogue channels.

The best thing to do is to record with WinTV2000 and then import your videos into VideoStudio. The problem I have found with the digital TV channels is that you have no control over the bitrate whilst capturing. The bit rate is set too high at 15000 and so has to be reduced later and is quite time consuming.

Thanks for your replies. I'm away for a week, but will give this some attention when I get back.
