Can Burn DVDs and Data CDs, But Not Audio CDs!
I have a new computer with an internal NEC ND-3520A burner (16x Dual Layer DVD±R/W Recorder). For whatever reason, I can't get it to burn an audio CD. MovieFactory gives me a vague error message at the end of the process, like "failed to burn data to disc" but gives no further information. I have learned that it burns DVDs and data CDs just fine. The problem appears to be isolated to audio CDs. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

What version of DVD MovieFactory you use?
What media do you use? The brand and the type?
Failed to burn data to disc message usually shows when you are trying to burn a CD with large content and the disc quality is poor in the outer area of the disc. Usually will be solved by using another good quality media.
Hope this helps.

You may be on to something! You're right: I was trying to burn a CD that had about 75 minutes of audio on it (nearly completely full). I forgot to mention that I tried burning the CD with just one song, and that worked. I thought that was strange.
Anyway, it appears I'm running MovieFactory 3.5. I'm trying to burn on TDK data CD-R's. The container says "80 min...700MB...writable surface...up to 48X compatible."
By the way, I just tried to burn an image file, and got a "Power Calibration Failed" message. You think both these problems might be fixed simply by using a different brand of CD? If so, please suggest brand names! Thanks so much.

Have you tried to lower the burning speed (not to use the max burning speed) to burn audio CDs?? Sometimes it will solve the problem because some media cannot be burned at high speed for audio CDs.
Hope this helps.

Yes, I did try that, to no avail. But here's something else I noticed: my CDs are labeled "data" CDs. Apparently TDK makes a different product labeled "audio" CDs. Could that be the problem? It would be strange, because with my previous external LaCie burner I had no trouble burning audio CDs on my "data" CDs.

Those disks should work.
CD's are cheap. Run some tests and try to put 780 megs on the CD.
Depends on how you created the original files on the CD.
The disk may not be able to update and link the new session to
the old session. That is known as a multi-session disk and burned
as track at once.
If the disk isn't multi-session but still writable then after you close the
CD and finalize it you'll only be able to see the last session you wrote
on it.
Hope this helps,

For your information:
CD's marked "Audio CD's" by TDK are specially coded to
comply with the "Digital Millenium Copyright Act" (DMCA).
They are sold to comply and work on "Desktop consumer
CD recorders" that can play in cars and stereos after burning.
It's a compatibility signature on the disk.
