Capture stops before tape end

Post by brianbrian »

DV capture just stops !
Sometimes it stops at a scene change, and sometimes it stops where there is a long gap between two adjacent scenes.
I've been through the tutorial on preferences and project settings and got everything set up as advised. The duration timer is set for 1 hour 5 mins, 'cos the tape length is just under 1 hour. Obviously, I've forgotten something ?

This happened to me when I first started. If there is no video signal the software will stop within 3 to 5 seconds. I used to shoot a segment and then remove the tape. Wen I replaced it I would fast forward 5 or 10 seconds page where I stopped shooting the previous time. Nothing I know of you can do other then baby sit then this happens to restart the capture.

The alternative is to do what the professionals do: with each new DV tape, put it in your camera and play it right through set to REC. That way a continuous time code is inserted. Rewind and use as usual, but this way, there will be no breaks in the underlining time code on the tape.

Thanks for your replies.
Ken - I understand what you mean, so there's nothing I can do about my current dv tapes awaiting transfer, except as Dan said - babysit them ?

Hi Brian,

That's correct, you would have to restart the capture/transfer once VS stops, thinking that there is no more data to transfer.
