NEED TO RECAPTURE THE MORAL HIGH GROUND

Post by tonyjer »

Hi

Am I to detect a certain sensitivity and incredulity here. I must admit I didn't realise that there was such a gulf between this board and, say, the DVD Shrink forum. Is DVD Shrink and related applications really such a no go area for most on this MB?

I can assure everyone that I am a 99% legitimate capturer, renderer and burner. (mainly for my 4 year-old son's benefit) If I have now exposed myself as a serial pirate then I apologise. (I'm not by the way)

Apologies

I'm sure there are many users of this forum that rip commercial DVDs (how copying a DVD you own is any different than a CD is for a completely different thread! ), but for the moderators of this forum to allow the discussion of circumventing copy protection would be morally wrong. Discussion about DVD Shrink's original intent, the shrinking of a DVD's size, has been and, I assume, always will be allowed on this forum.

Tony,

Blacklab is correct. The liability that could come back on us (mods) and Corel/Intervideo-Ulead, by directing, assisting or in any why helping people circumvent Macrovision or any copy protection technology is way too steep to risk.

Discussions of the proper usage of DVD Shrink is of course done and allowed. The other program DVDecrypter however is no longer found on the internet, due to it's main function, to circumvent copy protection. So that's a big no-no here..;)

DVDShrink is in fact a useful FREE tool that you can use with your OWN creations. Sometimes you may wish to squeeze a bit more of your holiday video onto a DVD disc. You do your sums and work out the required bit rate settings and so on, but alas it is slightly too big to fit onto your DVD disc.

Now you can either go back to the rendering stage and alter the bit rates or simply run it through DVDShrink.

If you're way over then your best option is to render again so that you preserve quality as much as possible. If your only a bit over then DVDShrink is a great time saver.

As stated by my fellow moderators we cannot allow posts that are clearly attempts at piracy, we can allow posts that are genuine tips and hints that are not breaking any legislation.
