Hi All
I am very new to this. I have a Sony Digital Video Camcorder DVD 101E.
I am able to conect it to my pc and view the dvd's through other programs but Video studio does not recognise the device is connected. I have been through all the tutorials but troubleshooting is not listed anywhere.
Error Message: Either no video capture driver is installed in this system or no device is connected.
Can anyone help?
Why wont Ulead Video Studio recognise my Sony Handycam?

Welcome to the forums Cinz,
Since you have a camcorder that records to DVD, have you tried just placing the disc in your PC's DVD drive, then in VS selecting Insert Media File to Timeline>Insert DVD/DVD-VR? Then you should be able to import your Titles and Chapters.
VS10+ also has the capability to insert VOB files, so with your DVD in the PC's tray, you could use the Insert Video option, navigate to your DVD drive, then open the Video_TS folder, and select the VOB files you want to insert..

When you connect your camcorder to your PC and you start Videostudio and select CAPTURE what is displayed in the box labled SOURCE.
In response to this question: the box labled SOURCE is greyed out and does not allow the function to edit.

In response to this question: I wasnt aware I could do this. if am able to do so I would like to know how as this would eliminate the need to have to set up the camcorder. I tried to follow the above but it does not recognise the dvd. Am I supposed to finalise the dvd before.
I am soooo new to this.
Thanks again guys

I always use the Sony software that came with my camera, to transfer my video to the computer, via USB. No loss of quality.
(Edited to Clarify)
The DVD disc used by the Sony camcorder cannot be used by any third party unless it is finalised by the camcorder.
If you don't want to finalise the disc yet, ie. if it isn't full, then use the supplied Sony software to transfer the files to the computer via USB.
As far as I aware, you cannot transfer any files from the camcorder to any software, ie Video Studio, other than by using the Sony supplied software, unless you finalise the disc. I have never tried to transfer files from a finalised disc inserted into the camcorder to my computer, so I cannot confirm if that would, in fact, work. There would be no point in doing that, you could just put the finalised disc into the DVD tray on the computer and it would be recognised.
Yes, the DVD, MUST be finalised by the Sony Camcorder before ANTHING will recognise the disc.Am I supposed to finalise the dvd before.

Regardless of the fact that you should be able to import video from a finalised DVD you still may want to import video direct from your camera.
If (the box) SOURCE is greyed out it could suggest that the correct driver for your camera has not been installed on your PC.
To check this with your camera plugged into you PC and turned ON check the DEVICE MANAGER (START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL then select SYSTEM then HARDWARE tab then DEVICE MANAGER then IMAGING DEVICES). Is anything listed for your camera?
If not then either use the INSTALLATION CD which would have come with your camera to install the driver OR use Windows ADD HARDWARE.
