MF 6+ vs VS 10+

Post by ED ROBERTS »

Hello Everyone

I have Video Studio 10+ and was wondering would Movie Factory 6+ have enough other features to justify buying it. I have just orderd PhotoImpact 12 to help me with pictures backgrounds and menus. Any advice would help.Thank you in advance ED.

dvdmf 6 is unstable

Post by srsmedia »

...I wouldn't go for dvdmf6 just yet. It appears to be very unstable. I have been working with it since the 3rd of this month and can not complete a single project. It freezes randomly in all phases of authoring, regardless of OS state and hardware. Not looking promising, and Ulead are dragging their feet about a refund.

I suggest you download the free trial to see if the additional authoring/menu features are worth it to you.

That will also allow you to test it for stability... I haven't upgraded to MF6, but with past versions most crashes have been due to bad video files, or "funny" formats, like DivX*. If Video Studio works on your system, and with your particular video files, I suspect you will be OK. (srsmedia didn't mention if he/she'd had success with MF5 or any other Ulead program... Obviously many people are getting good results with MF5.)

* It is quite common to have a "slightly corrupted" file that plays back fine, but causes trouble when you try to edit or re-code it. This seems to be more of a problem with the highly-compressed formats than with the less-compressed 13Gb per hour AVI-DV files from a MiniDV camcorder.

dvdmf6 problems

Post by srsmedia »

For the record:
I have tried many, many different video files in dvdmf6- as many different types as would load into the prog, and none of them were any better or any worse with freezing/crashing. It does not happen at any one particular point in the authoring process- quite to the contrary- it can happen at any random time, and is immensely frustrating. The software is very buggy; quite unstable currently, even on a totally new and clean OS install. I am sure the technical staff are working hard to correct this condition with an SP-type update, but quite frankly- I do not have time to wait while they sort it out, and have asked for a refund(4 times now), which I still have not received. Ulead tech support never even bothered to reply to my registered user support request, which is usually a good indication that there is big trouble behind the scenes... Unfortunately, I had to contact my CC company today to dispute the charge.
I was using DVDMF2 for many moons with no issues at all. Moved to DVDMF6 for dual-layer support and extra features, only to be very discouraged and completely dissatsified. I had to move to different software, as the projects are work related, and can not wait.
All in all, I would say that it would be best to wait until they have issued at least one good update in the form of a service pack, because currently it is just crashware.

MF 6+ vs VS10+

Post by ED ROBERTS »

Hello Everyone

Sorry about the profile just updated it. I did search the Movie Factory forum but did not find mush on mf 6+, mybe to new of a product. I went to download trial version but it's not there yet. I was hoping to get some feedback from fellow members who have MF 5 to see if it was worth having. I have VS 10+ and have had no problems with it. I also have Pinnacle 10, Roxio 7, nero 6 , Photoshop Elements 2.0, Photoshop 7.0. I'm interested in finding programs that will help me make better looking videos.

The trial version isn't yet available but should be soon.
As you have mentioned it is a new product and so relatively few users have it yet. Hopefully I shall be able to give you some feedback soon as I received my download links a few hours ago.
