USV 9 : Text and titles questions

I can add titles and text very easely over existing video but I.m trying to do a black background with a title over it and I don`t know how or if it`s possible.

Insert a black color clip from the library manager. Alter the duration of tht black color clip to the desired length.

I'm interested in this too. I can do this is Windows Movie Maker but am stuck with VS10+ Can you explain a bit further please. I've clicked on Library Manager but don't know where to go from here.

You do not need the library manager - to the right of the preview screen is your library pane - at the top of that by default you will see the word 'Video' - to the right of that is a small downward pointing arrow - click on it.

From the drop down which appears click on 'Color' - the colour library pane will open displaying a number of coloured squares - click on the black one and while holding your left mouse key down drag it down into the timeline - release the mouse key - now set the duration of the block by dragging it's right end to the right.
