PEX 8 crashes during burning TV slideshow

every attempt to burn a VCD TV slideshow crashes at the beginning of step 2 ( create disc image ) with error message:
the statement at "0x0408348f" cannot read memory in "0x00000028"

the error is reproducible ... but
- there is enough harddisk space available ( > 30 GB )
- there is 1GB memory available
- and it was possible to burn a PC slideshow with the same image files ( ca 670 ) and audiofiles ( 27 ) without any problems

even if I try to burn a TV slideshow with only 4 image files ( without audio ) PEX crashes with the same message, so I think it cannot be a problem with the size or amount of the disc image.

any idea ?
