Can DVD MF 6 Plus passthrough 5.1 sound?

Post by dotheDVDeed »

My source is MPEG-2 video 1280x720 variable bit rate/DD Audio 48KHz 5.1 channels-448 kbps bit rate.

I'm trying to create a no menu DVD-R that will play in any common DVD player with 5.1 audio through a Dolby Digital capable receiver.

MovieFactory 6 Plus converts my video correctly but insists on downgrading my audio to stereo or what it calls

"Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR)"

As far as I can tell this is *NOT* 5.1 channels of discrete sound. It is five channels of mono sound--all sounding the same. Definitely not what I'm looking for.

I'm new to MovieFactory, can you tell me if I'm missing a setting somewhere.

Tim,
Is MovieFactory 6 re-encoding the original 5.1 audio track and changing all the pan settings?

I think if you were working with elementary streams the 5.1 audio will remain the same and not be re-encoded.

How do you import these elementary streams?--I don't see how to import AC3 files.
