moving map

Post by lakewud »

Appologies for starting a new thread about it - im sure ive seen it written somewhere here before...looking to make a moving map so to speak. Film a map, then have a moving thin coloured line stopping and starting - travelling along the coastroads i visited.

Any help to achieve this?

I am using ITIN, it's a free software (french). You need to start with 2 BMP-files.

Thanks Daniel,

I downloaded the program but could not get it to work, tried to get a start point but the program just produced a coloured block of the route colour that I had selected. Could not work out how to pick the end point of the journey.

Do you know of any instructions in English?

thanks

thanks Trevor,

I have used that option before but I have a tour which travels in a circlular direction and I thought that program would work better for that setup. I have nearly got the program to work, but just got to work out how I change the overall time scale for the route.

thanks again

There is an option tab for that where you specify the number of seconds (you can't type over the default 6, just use the "more" arrow repeatedly).

You can also add key frames to specify the arrival time at each point you wish, slowing/accelerating to have the map scroll at your will.

The best way in my opinion is not to generate the AVI but use a bmp series, then you can import it in different sections as a Ulead image sequence (UIS), then your map can be shown little by little during the journey, continuing where you left off. You only draw one full map and show it little by little.

By the way if you have loops in the traject I would advise to slightly change the color at this point when you draw the traject map, then calculation will stop and you can select the loop, stop again etc, otherwise all branches will progress together. Also if you work with sections, you do not disclose the whole thing from the start, preserving the surprise and thus attention.

I found also the best results are with two pictures one without traject, and one with. I find the result more pleasing with a progressing road than with a pre-existing one that changes its color. With a color change I see the viewers automatically look ahead to the end of the trial, defeating your carefully timed progression effect...
This my understanding of it.

Yes an Image sequence file is a good way to do this.
Here is a How to for dealing with image sequence files:

MediaStudio/VideoStudio: Use A Video Sequence File

Hi Daniel,

Hope you don't mind answering another question with the map program. You mentioned that you found the best results with one picture with traject and one without. Do you mean the VS way with the slide transition or do you know how to remove the route road from the map in the program so that you do not see this on screen. It seems a bit pointless to have the route showing and then just filling it in with another colour.

I suppose another way to do this would be with Cool3D that was supplied with VS

Many Thanks

Within itin, in the last step down just before the output option is a check box for the empty map. You check it, then browse to the original map without traject.

That will be memorized when you save the "project".
You need the exact same map of course, I mean same dimensions.

You can check with the preview function (the rewind and play buttons)

Than you can play with the magnifier and custom tip options...
Another usage is to draw text (in a cursive font for instance) and then using itin to draw it so it appears to write itself in the video, with a plain color brackground that you remove with a chroma keyed overlay(Just keeping you busy for the week-end)
This my understanding of it.
