Thanks for the reply. There isnt a user manual in the box just a bit of paper with how to install on it.
I've done the system thing.
The video works fine and its pal.
There is no error message theres nothing!
I want to put some old video tapes onto dvd. Not films so theres no copyright issue.
I have a scart in the back of the video and I've set it to out.

I have just spent 2 hours reading through posts and most of the problems concern cameras. I'm trying to transfer from video tape to dvd via my pc. So I think I may have bought the wrong thing. Can anyone suggest anything that will work for me. I dont have a camera just an old video recorder.
Cheers

Can you give us a description of how you have connected the cables?

The lead is connected to the ADS Xpress box. It has the white, yellow and red ends. This cable was supplied with the kit. The other end goes into the scart adapter with the colours matching up. I have then switched the scart adapter to out.
I live in the UK.

I have just uninstalled and reinstalled it and now I'm not sure that windows found the new hardware. That part didnt show up so I dont know if I reinstalled the drivers? Can anyone tell me what they would come under on the disc?

First off, I don't the answer. The dirvers should be in the disk that came with this.

If this is what I am thinking, it's a ~ $39.00 box http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... EMC-NEXTAG that says Video Xpress connects directly to a USB 2.0 port for easy video capture to your computer with Movie Wizard.

You may get what you pay for. If this is not the product you have, let us know just what you do have and we can go from there.

I can play a DVD through the movie wizard and video studio editor but not video tape. I cant find any help with the search button on this site or on the web page. Do you know if there's an Idiots guide to using this software. The instructions that came with it were useless!
The man in the shop said it was easy to use and I just had to install it and connect the leads that came with it.
Can you recommend anything that I could use as this really isn't for me.

So you are saying that when you hook up a VCR to the Box and then bring up the Movie Wizard, it will not capture that VCR analog signal?

Your hook up looks like this with the exception of the VHS replacing the camera pictured?

It sounds like Movie Wizard has to be the capture software and then once that is completed, you can use VS10 or any editor to do that work. Can you bring up Movie Wizard and start a capture from there? If not, I don't know.

I don't know. Reading the Web page it says it can "Capture home movies from any analog video source to your computer hard drive" and then "Video can be directly captured as .AVI, compressed .AVI, MPEG-1 or Windows Media Video"

I am no expert but one thing I see right off is that it's USB which from all I have read is not fast enough to capture video and I don't what the box is doing internally as far as compression if any.

So if you hook this ting up and use it's software to capture and store as an AVI file, VS10 will read that saved file and you are fine.
I can only go from my experiences. I bought a Canopus ADVC 300 for my A2D converter and love it. A bit pricey but they also have a 110 model. Still around ~ $200 or ¢G128.00 in England.

Others may weigh in on other units. Guess it really depends on how may videos you will have to convert.
