Pixelation during scene changes

Post by SandyW »

The short version.....
I am using a Sony DCR-PC101E camera to record my video, then capturing it using Videostudio 8. I then typically do some multi trimming and add effects between the scene changes such as cross fade. I then 'create a video file' which I then write to DVD using DVD Movie Factory 3 Disc Creator.

The problem is....
When I watch the DVD on the televison there is about a second of pixelation after each scene change.

These are the settings that I am using in VideoStudio:

Source: Sony MSDV
Format: DVD
Options: MPEG Files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 25.00 fps
Lower field first
(DVD-PAL)
CBR 8000

When I select to share the file I use the 'same as project settings' option

Hope this is all the information I need to give you. Thanks

If you are doing a bit of editing (as I see you are, with transitions, trimming etc) I recommend you save to DV format rather than mpeg. It stands up to editing much better.

Sandy,
If editing Mpeg was the culprit then my many DVDs would display pixelation. But none do.

I have run across pixelation only once - when I used the Multi-Trim control many times in succession and also changed the order of the "virtual" clips in the timeline. I finally found that one of the clips was corrupt and when I deleted it, everything played well.

However, what you describe seems systemic rather than random.

I usually use simple cuts rather than transitions and don't use cross fade transitions. I use transitions between major scene changes - real video clips (produced by Save Trimmed Video). I wonder if there might be a bug associated with transitions between virtual clips...
