MF5 not previewing with audio

Post by lathompson »

I use MovieFActory 5 daily since it came out and have had no problems until today. I retired the older XP computer and bought a new one with VISTA loaded on it. I installed MF5 and began to make a DVD. My problem is that when I brought the AVI to the timeline, I I did a quick preview of the footage. Well, the video played fine, but without any audio. After checking all settings and the volume of my machine's audio, I was unable to get sound working for a preview. Using various media players, the footage played fine with audio working as it should.

From my archives, I loaded a couple of AVIs that have previously been used successfully and they didn't have any audio either.

Can anyone explain this? Could it be a installation problem?

I think your problem is called Vista. DVDMF5 was released pre-Vista, and the patch for it is called DVDMF6. When the OS is drastically changed as was from XP to Vista, then programs will need to be upgraded/patched to work on the newer OS.

Okay Ron, but do you say this knowingly or tongue in cheek? Is there no way to keep version 5? I just upgraded to version 5 in August '06 and hate to purchase a new version when it's working so great.

Also, looking at posts on this forum, it appears nobody is singing praises about version 6. I know negative posts reign 10 to 1 on products and for the most part, I suspect it is worth it, however I don't want to upgrade it I don't have to.

Because Microsoft made so many changes in Vista many of XP programs don't work correctly. That was the biggest complaint when Vista was first released, audio not working correctly in the older applications.

Your not alone. Almost all my video/audio apps aren't Vista compatible except for VS10+.
Most people buying a new computer have 2 machines now, the old XP one and the new Vista machine.
