homeless editor seeks home....

Post by serf »

hey
ok I have been reading all about the Vista dilemma and it appears to me that ULEAD is goanna pull the plug. Bummer! Although not perfect I think it is probably the most intuitive program I've used.

So what software is there that is comparable ? Can Vegas do all this? I must have the Vid Effects at least this robust and all the other lil perks too.

Any suggestions?

Oh and I have been trying to log into the main ULEAD site to DL the Cool 3D trial version but I cant log in there. just here. Anybody else having this prob?

Maybe. To me I'm still using MSP and UVS on XP and they are working well.

For Vista certified video editor from Ulead, you can look for Ulead VideoStudio. It has the Vista certified update pack so you can use it on Vista.

Maybe. However, if you want to discuss about competitor products, you should go to their forum to discuss since this is Ulead forum.

To me I still cannot get used to Vegas but it's my own opinion.

You should register a Ulead member account on Ulead site so you can use that account to download the trial softwares. The member account is not the one you login on this forum.

Hope this helps.

Video Studio 10 is an outright joke compared to MSP
sorry that wont do. not enough canned graphics and I think it only allows one vid track lol. I use at least 10 in the more aggressive effect shots

Thanks for your feedback. Guess I'm-a going shoppin'

Hi Serf,

It depends on how you see it.

I guess you did not know that all MSP features are built from the technologies first used in VS. Ulead just made MSP to open up more options which are been hidden in VS with more professional UI.

VS has 1 video track, 6 overlay tracks, 1 title track and 2 audio tracks (voice and music), but yes if you need 10 or more tracks you can see other video editors. However, I won't be surprised if Ulead put more video tracks into the next version of VS.

No problem, and wish you luck.

And good luck, you cannot have enough of that when it comes to Vista.

Difficult to contribute to this forum....
When I asked the question about MSP future a long time ago (Corel wasn't in yet) I felt almost as if my doubts where pure nonsense.
By the time I just asked if the new owner's strategy would keep MSP or would sacrifice it and just leave VS and focus on the consumer market.
It proved I was right, as we can see now
Video market changed a lot, VS is a good consumer product, sometimes it was better tham MSP in certain aspects - remember the MainConcept codec - but we must feel sorrow watching MSP leaving the big boys league and having to migrate to the consumer segment if we want to stay with Ulead products.

Actually you can fool VideoStudio into thinking it has more than 6 video tracks.

You set things up using the available tracks and save that as a project file.
that project file can then be imported into a new project as though it was a fully rendered video. This means that you are now using just one video track.

It is the VideoStudio equivalant of a nested timeline.

I understand what Steve is saying above, but his workaround (or "trick") is not a great solution IMHO (although it can be helpful in some situations). The reason I say that (and please correct me if I am wrong) is that it is NOT like MSP's nested timelines. In MSP, you can open a nested timeline and edit/make changes to the individual elements in it. Steve said you can import a project file as "though it was a fully rendered video." If that's the case, then the individual elements will not be able to be edited. Like I said, I haven't used VS since switching to MSP so I could be wrong about the latest version.

You can still edit the project that is supposed to be used in the timeline.

For example, you import project A into project B as a video clip. You can still open project A to do some editing and it will be updated when you render project B.

That is, the project file A used in the timeline of another project (which is project B) will be rendered on-the-fly when you render project B. This should work in both UVS and MSP.

Hope you can understand what I'm trying to tell.

H.T., thanks for that clarification. Although not as simple as nested timelines in MSP, it is better than I thought. It just means having to switch between projects.

Just getting the news, MSP now not supported??? ROFL, damn, just bought it, and, all the support software that rolled around it.. Now what do I do? I really don't wanna dump my windows editing platform. It's what I am comfortably with. I am extremely happy with MSP.. All the best vids I have done, have been with MSP 8.

On another note: Poke at Black Lab, ... dude veoh cool, but, man, it sucks up bandwidth like a vampire wambat in heat...

Where did you see that MSP is not supported?

So far as I know, Ulead still provide tech support for MSP. You can still use it as well. If you are happy with it, then just work with it. There is no need to change that. Why let other people effect you?

Ok, maybe I misunderstand?? I understand that it IS being supported, but, for some reason I got the impression the package is being dropped altogether by Corel. Please correct me if I am wrong.. Hopefully it was in error, but, the news release does not mention MSP at all.. http://www.ulead.com.tw/ulead/UDNews/pr ... leases.htm

AFAIK, Corel have made no decision as to its future. Certainly, Ulead still support it, but I don't know what development is being conducted just now.
