Hi all, new to DV and intervideo. Just going through the video tutorials now - looks pretty good.
What I am doing is quite simple. Each week I record my guitar teacher. Then I just want to create a video with bookmarks (chapter locations?) at various places throughout the video. I don't need to do anything more than that.
I see that VS is "clip" oriented. All my lessons are in one big file. Is there a way that I can just mark locations in the file and create an index from this?
thanks for the help.
bookmarks?

If you are using VS10 you can mark chapter points on the timeline. Other versions (and VS10) you can add chapter points during the burn phase (Share).
See pages 65 & 120 in the User's Manual for both options.

Just be aware that if you insert the the chapter marks during the editing process while using VS10, AND you have not applied the VS10 SP1, then you will lose the chapter marks if you first render your project into a DVD-compatible mpeg-2. You will then have to reinsert them in the burning phase (create Menu, including chapter menu).
Although we normally don't recommend it, if you are using VS10 without SP1, you go straight from the project into the timeline into the burning module (Share > Create Disc). But this has been known to create other problems.
The alternative, of course, is to apply SP1.

I am not sure exactly what you mean by your question, nor its relationship to your own 'workaround'.
However, once you have completed your editing and moved into the burning module AND created your main and chapter menus, then in the final page of the burning phase, you can choose either to burn it to DVD AND/OR burn it to a disc image file (.ISO) or to a DVD folder (Video _TS).
Either of these latter two options will contain all information that appears on the final disc, including the menus. They are in any case what you do when you intend to burn multiple copies of the same disc.
And I in particular use the Video_TS method as I can then open it in a software DVD player on my computer and test it to make sure everything, including the menus, is right, before committing it to a DVD.
