quemo wrote:I just bought MF6 and had the same error. I am using an Intel P4 system with XP SP2. So its not just dual core specific. I have used MF5 since last year and have burned a lot of DVDs with it. However, I remember having burn probs with it as well, until I got the update. So I imagine we will have to do the same for MF6 - wait for the update fix.
But like everyone else, I bought it now so I could use it now. Oh well.
DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus=Unspecified ERROR
Re: Same Error Here
It'll work eventually -- for now though they've finally processed my refund -- will just repurchase when the update corrects it. From what I can use of it though it looks good.

Unspecified ERROR - Try this to see if it works
All,
I've got a Pentium 4 System that I built myself a year ago and it's as stable as a horse
I downloaded Ulead DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus. I got the Unspecified error sometimes but not all. I've pinned down the problem to only occuring on my system when I trim or cut a DVD after import. If I Import and rename, or re-order it's fine, as soon as I crop or divide I get the error.
The fact so many of us are getting the error and I can burn the same DVD extracts without cropping fine as give a problem when cropping point very firmly at an issue with that function. I've made Ulead aware, lets hope they sort it out cos it's otherwise excellent

You are lucky and.. unlucky simultaneaously : I have to wait for the French version (unlucky) but I hope it will have less problems (luckily)...
On a features viewpoint, does MovieFactory 6+ offer more possibilities than UVS10+ regarding the authoring of the DVD discs (high def. files) ? in other words, is it worthy to buy MF6+ provided that I already have UVS10+ ?
Thanks very much,

Robc,
I've found that when using MF (all versions). After you have multi-trimmed or edited any videos before continuing into the menu/burn stage to export the file and create a new video file of the edited work.
Then use that new video file for menuing & burning. It doesn't need ot be re-encoded if you exported it as dvd compliant video.
This also helps to troubleshoot any errors similar to yours because you know it has to be in the editing stage and not the menu/burn stage.
Provided you Always make your project settings equal to your source video's properties like all video editing software does.

There is a new function in DVD MovieFactory 6 Menus - you can have text and thumbnails that slide in. Here is one I created earlier:Nounours18200 wrote:You are lucky and.. unlucky simultaneaously : I have to wait for the French version (unlucky) but I hope it will have less problems (luckily)...

Thanks sjj1805...
It seems to me that MF6+ also allows the burning of HD-DVD and Blueray discs, which is not allowed by UVS10+ : this should be another additional feature of MF6+ versus UVS10+.
But it seems to me that there is not something that really makes a huge difference between MF6+ and UVS10+ from the DVD authoring viewpoint and burning : am I right ?

Unspecified ERROR - Thanks etech
Thanks for the tip etech, I tried exporting cut clips then re-importing and it seems to work. It's a bit long winded and I think the fact the instructions don't seem to say you need to do this point to a bug but for now I have something that works. Just need to make sure I don't loose any quality during export and re-import

You are right. there is hardly any difference between the procedure to create a DVD with either product. The procedure outlined in my tutorial Authoring a DVD was written with screen shots from VideoStudio but the tutorial is also a useful aide for MovieFactory users.Nounours18200 wrote:Thanks sjj1805...

RobC,
There is a nice feature in the Multi-Trim module if you haven't found it yet. When your in the Multi-Trim module and have selected a section (or more, F3/F4 keys) and the clips are on the multi-trim timeline. If you click on one of the trimmed clips and select the < (Left arrow button icon on the left on the timeline), you can quickly export that small clip to a new file. If you hold down the "Left CTRL Key" and select more than one clip, then clicking on the left arrow key and exporting the clips will make one file of the selected clips. Nice feature.
As far as calling anything a bug your edting mpeg video, that has it's ups & downs. There is an option under "Preferences" you can check on so MF will create an index file for better editing performance. Maybe that will help. I don't use it much.

Unspecified error - Think I've found a fix for mine
Ulead Support
I was reading one of the other threads that mentioned Unspecified error where someone had downloaded the
CD/DVD Burning Pack (Version: 3.6.19 .281, Release Date: 2005/07/27 ) and this had fixed their error.
I've tried it and it also seems to have fixed mine. I can now use multi trim and burn to HDD folders without any errors.
Could Ulead look into why this might be so, there seems to be a lot of people with the Unspecified errors
Thanks

I have an AMD Athlon64 CPU and I'm also getting this error when I try to burn a DVD... When I burn a VCD, it works fine....bozzen wrote:sjj1805: The error comes way before its actully get to the burning phase, its right away in the rendering phase(tried everything , diff temp folders, iso image , dvd folder ).
But now I tried it now on a 3rd computer running Amd Athlon 64 cpu and it WORKS without any problems. So I figure the problem is the Intel Duo Core ( 1 & 2 ) cpus. And i think that is quite embarrassing.. I hope they make update soon.
UPDATE: I actully read about a another one with the same problem , and his cpu was a amd x2 , so maybe the problem is DUAL core systems ?!
I understand eheber's frustrations completely , i feel the same way.
I wrote to Ulead Support the same day I bought and experienced the problem, and I still haven't received any email from them.
When I was using the "trial" version, I didn't have this problem...
