Importing Panasonic HDC-SD1 AVCHD files from harddisk

Post by bsckwan »

The only problem is that after importing even 2 clips, it kept on crashing and I couldn't even get to the next step. I'm using the trial version but that shouldn't make much different.

Are you PAL or NTSC. These persons are having a problem with the framerates that MF6 is assigining to the videos.
They can import the videos but having a recognition problem related to the video properties of the clips.

Panasonic HDC-SD1 project set up

Post by mastruck »

Etech, I read in one of your posts that it is very important to get the Custom Template set up correctly to match your video source.

Can you help me with the correct settings for AVCHD video created with the Panasonce HDC-SD1.

I am creating a DVD now without (having done this) and while it seems to be working it is taking a very long time as its been rendering for 8 hours and is only half done. I think you had said that if you don't get the frame size right that the conversion can make the rending take a long time. The project consists of 5 files and totals about 1 hour of AVCHD video. Is it possible this is normal - to take 16 hours to render a 1 hour DVD? I've done some rendering with Nero and it takes between 1 and 2 hours for the same files, however Nero chokes on files larger than 1GB so I am trying this out (Nero breaks 1GB+ files in to pieces when it imports them and only the 1st piece works, the rest are black).

Thanks, Mike

Mike,
Please post your video format NTSC or PAL and how fast your computer speed is. Right now I'm working on some instructions how to setup projects in MF.
Sounds like you have started a rather large project. I suggest performing a 10minute HD to SD conversion to create a dvd to learn the process of how MF operates.
HD AVCHD conversion to SD-DVD does take time.
Important to learn for MF6 = Project Settings, Preferences, Disk Template Creation, read the MF6 PDF manual.

Read these links to start:

You probably read this already:

Most important point in MF6 with AVCHD files (and other video files if not hd-dvd or dvd compliant). Using MF6 Exporting features you immediately convert them after importing to an editable format which creates new videos files on your harddsik. After converting them to the format you want then start a new project, use these new editable files to create either a hd-dvd or sd-dvd depending on your target goal.
Do this before moving to the menuing & disk burning. This way the program is working with a much easier format. You can also use the new converted files in other editors or dvd creation programs.

I'll post some instructions after I write them.
You can also email me.

If I don't plan to do any editing, just burn a SD-DVD using the Panasonic's AVCHD files "as is" do I still need to do the Export?
