DVD MovieFactory6 Plus - no support for Sony AVCHD M2TS
I was excited to read MovieFactory6 Plus now supports editing of AVCHD that I make in my Sony SR1. Today I bought and downloaded right away. I am not too happy now because the software says the m2ts files are an unrecognized format. Can anyone shed light on this? And why doesn't Ulead put in a disclaimer with the AVCHD comment?
Are you using the DVD Import Feature of MF6 or inserting a file?
If it's a file, try changing the extension to either mp4 or m2t, really should be mp4.
Sony's format is somewhat propriertory. Windows doesn't read the dvd's
created in those units. Guess you have to install the sony software.
Just read the advertisement. It says "Captures" from those units.
From the timeline click on the import dvd icon and select your dvd reader that has the mini-dvd in it.

Just Downloaded the Users Manual.
On Page 19 of the pdf Users Manual:
DVD MovieFactory also allows you to import AVCHD video, a format developed by Sony and Panasonic-parent Matsushita. This format upports various resolution/frame-rate combinations and can encode audio in either 5.1 channel AC-3 or up to 7.1 channel Linear PCM. DVD MovieFactory also supports dual channel audio input so you can include the video¡¦s main audio channel and/or the sub channel if available.
To import DVD and AVCHD video:
1. Click Import/Capture and then Import from DVD in the Launcher. You can
also click Import DVD Video or DVD-VR files from a disc or hard drive in
the Select source and import (Step: 1/3) page.
2. The Select a DVD Title dialog box opens.
3. Locate the DVD drive that contains the video files and click Import.
4. The Import DVD dialog box opens.
5. In the left pane, select the video clips to import.
6. Click Import. The imported video files are displayed in the Media Clip list.
Note: Click Import DVD Folder to search your hard drive for the video files. Browse
for the DVD folder and click OK.
Give it a try, that's directly from the users manual.

Well, I have the Panasonic HDC-SD1, which puts AVCHD files on an sd card. I have the same problem as the first poster using a Sony. The files are on a disc, not a DVD. These files are NOT proprietary, they conform to the standard developed jointly by Panasonic and Sony. They designed the AVCHD format; there is no other AVCHD format. If Ulead claims that you can edit these files, then the statement they are proprietary is hogwash.
Indeed, the advertising for this product is completely misleading. I want my money back. Should I post on all of the AVCHD forums (panasonic and Sony) that the product does not edit AVCHD files contrary to the adverstising as a service to all, or am I missing something. certainly the responders to the posts above have not provided solutions (changing the extension to MP4 does not work), and "importing from DVD", using the disc that the files are on, does not work.

According to InterVideo/Ulead's site they too show it to support AVCHD,
http://www.ulead.com/dmf/sysreq.htm
So either tech support doesn't know about the product (which is very possible) or they are not being truthful on the websites.File Format Support

markr041,
Panasonic just released that new camcorder, records on a SD Card/disk, pretty cool. Maybe ahead of it's time until software catches up.
The original poster never replied back whether he could import or not from the Sony Mini-Dvd disk.
I can read a Sony AVCHD Disk in a Blu-Ray Player, not on my computer dvd reader/writer. I do have "Data-Add 2" installed (MF5+). The Blu-Ray Reader displays it as a AVCHD Disk. They are formatted as UDF 2.5 or 2.6 File System.
The ad's for MF6 say this:
I was hoping that Panasonic would come out with a hd-mpeg2 camcorder.

As far as I can tell one cannot do much with these AVCHD files except play them back due to the extreme compression used. Maybe they can be converted to an intermediate codec for editing, such as cineform or Huffy. In my Blu-Ray Multi-media player I can copy the media files from it's source to the units internal harddisk. The AVCHD disk wouldn't allow this. It was read & play only.High-Definition files from AVCHD camcorders that shoot on either hard drive or DVD.

The original poster has a Sony that records to hard disk, not DVD. As I said, the responses of help (well intentioned) are irrelevant.
I can play my AVCHD files in high-definition glory with Nero Showtime on my computer. I am perfectly happy to accept that no one has come up with editing solutions for AVCHD files. What I find astonishing is the claim by Ulead/Corel that they support these files, when in fact the software does not even recognize the format, and there is only one format (Sony=Panasonic) for AVCHD.
Blu-Ray and HD-DVD read AVCHD files; it is in their specs. Indeed, AVCHD files burned appropriately to a regular DVD-R can be played on Blu-ray and HD-DVD players in high-def. Ulead's claim is that one can take the camcorder SVCHD files, edit them and without conversion create a Blu-ray or HD-DVD disk that can be read. That's great; it's just not true.

Mark,
I hear that Nero is working to have future releases capable of editing AVCHD files.
>>>Ulead's claim is that one can take the camcorder SVCHD files, edit them
I have yet to see any software companies advertise the word "EDIT". I think all they do is take the original file, add some menus and transfer the files to a HD-Dvd or Blu-Ray Disc.
Maybe VideoStudio11+ will be able to edit them. So far I've only been able to create them, copy, burn or play them, not edit them.
Editing HD-Mpeg2 is time consuming. Can't even imagine editing this super compressed format without some type of hardware assistance.

I needed time to re-install and wait for a reply from email support. I tried the above and it does not work and does not exactly match the menu. I have never experienced so many application crashes. I have yet to edit any video on my HD even formats it does support. Oh, support emailed me that I should phone support before requesting a refund. Since someone else heard directly from Ulead that AVCHD is NOT supported then it is a waste of time.etech6355 wrote:Just Downloaded the Users Manual.

MONEY BACK
I am so Mad
I can barely stand it....
There can be no legitimate explanation for the completely false claims in regard to this product. "DVD MovieFactory also allows you to import AVCHD video, a format developed by Sony and Panasonic" I have the Sony HDRSR1. I cannot import the m2ts files, no matter how I name them. I created an AVCHD disc and for a moment thought I might be able to import from this disc. It correctly identified the framerate and resolution, but that's it. It did not work...file format not supported message when I tried to import/capture.
I think we all NEED our money back. This is Crap!
Heres a quote from the press release announcing this product which has been plastered all over the web...
"Support for New Formats -
AVCHD Camcorder Support - Now users can import and edit high-definition footage from AVCHD camcorder discs, and convert to standard definition formats."
