Upgrading from VS10 TBYB to full version

Post by sfont »

When I first started using TBYB, I knew soon afterward I would eventually purchase. Since there was an Activation button on the startup of TBYB, I didn't think twice about starting a significant project, and assuming that on purchase I just "Activate", right? So now I see that activating TBYB is not recommended, and the full version wants me to first uninstall TBYB. Which means that I will definitely lose my image library and sound library thumbnails (I'm guessing) in my TBYB system. Is my project lost when I install to VS10 Full? The vsp files are saved to a separate folder, as are the jpgs that the project is linked to. Neither of these folders should be in harm's way if I uninstalled TBYB.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Uninstalling the TBYB first is definitely the way to go. Your project is saved as a vsp file, right? A vsp file is just a project file that tells VS what and where everything for your project is located. After you install the full version go to File>Open Project to open your project. You will probably get a re-linking message as it looks for your clips. Just browse to the folders where they are located and everything should be hunky dory.

The final outcome: I uninstalled VS10 TBYB cleanly, and restarted. Installed VS10+ full, and to my surprise, all of the image and audio thumbnail libraries were still there! My project file opened just fine; no relinking necessary. What a relief.
On the phone, tech support told me I'd lose the libraries on the uninstall. So the question is: where does VS10 store these libraries? Registry?
Blacklab, thanks again.

If I recall correctly, those files are saved in C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\10.0

I didn't uninstall anything... I just downloaded the two packages, (upgrade/TBYB) and (bonus features) and as far as I can tell, everything works well

What problems have users been getting into, by activating the trial version, instead of uninstalling it and getting a new one?
