Is not obliged it to be vice versa? Please, take advantage always SR.

SR is a two-edged sword. Yes, it is a great time-saver 90% of the time, but you should be aware that it also has disadvantages. For example, if a temporary file changes because of some action you have done and it has become corrupt during over-writing, then SR is better switched off and the temp files deleted. Otherwise, the results may be unpredictable. If I have to change the settings of MSP in mid-project, for any reason, or if I want to archive an AVI, I always switch it off so that everything is freshly rendered without risking a glitch.

Hi Guys

While on this subject, as you know I've had some problems with MSP eight's instant play and anything that is not AVI (e.g. Mpegs or C3Dps imports) create a full red line on the complexity bar and are jumpy and sticky and can be poor visual quality. This makes things a bit tricky when checking things like synchronisations 'on the fly'

This is something that has developed comparatively recently and I've been playing with the OS here and even ran XP repair a few days ago. Now everything seems to be running as it should on the PC except instant play. I know one solution is Steve's video editing profile and I suppose another is using all the memory board slots to take it up to 4 gig (running at 1.24 - approx 50% free currently).

Before fiddling about even more (it just takes so much time and I have a day job, of which video work is a minor part at present), I went back again to basics in the manual, where it says that the performance level should be set relative to the CPU speed. How does one determine this??

My processor is 3.20 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4 with:
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache.

Any advice gratefully received. So I've tried the level at 1 and 3 but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
Thanks & regards.
