A very significant date for those of us in the UK - known as "April Fools Day" or sometimes "All Fools Day" it is a day on which all sorts of strange stories are invented to try and fool the unsuspecting. One of the best remembered is a news item on the BBC a few years ago showing spaghetti growing on trees !!. Don't know if they have that sort of thing in Singapore !

Dear Brian, as I know it's not a Fools Day thing. Check http://www.asiapac.ulead.com/aboutulead ... -10-05.htm for more details.

In the press release I note the following explanations of the two programs. Would someone who uses both explain to us novices why one who already uses VS8 would need to use Movie Factory. Also, will Movie Factory do all you need to do to convert mini dv tape to movies or must you use VS8

About Ulead® VideoStudio™ 9
Ulead VideoStudio 9 is easy-to-use software that turns great video moments into fun-to-watch movies. Use the two- step DV-to-DVD Wizard™ for the quickest way to get your home movies edited and on disc, or graduate to the powerful video editor with over 1000 effects, transitions and audio tools. Preserve your finished movies - on disc, tape, or the Web - and share with family and friends.

This may be a stupid question but I suspect I am not alone in wondering

Confused

About Ulead® DVD MovieFactory™ 4
The easiest and quickest way to turn any video and photos into high quality DVD and VCD movies. Burn video straight to disc using no hard drive space. Create impressive motion menus with button and text design control. Produce professional-looking movies to play on any DVD player or computer.

Ulead VideoStudio - Rich video editing and basic DVD authoring.

Ulead DVD MovieFactory - Rich DVD authoring and basic video editing.

They both have capabilities to capture DV video and burn to disc, but they are for different purposes.

Maybe some other people can explain better....

Hope this helps.

VideoStudio vs MovieFactory

Post by raymenwu »

VideoStudio is a pretty powerful video editing software that comes with DVD authoring (DVD menus & DVD-Video creation). Basically if you would like to not just transfer videos onto a CD or DVD, but also add effects, transitions, titles and try to be DIY home movie maker, this is "THE ONE".

MovieFactory (which comes in 2 versions) is basically your best bet for transfering or archiving videos onto a CD or DVD without all the special effects. Note, pricing is different.

I happen to use both VS 8 and MF 3 Disc Creator -- the first to edit my captured video, the second to burn to DVD. The VS 8 burning module is certainly based on the MF 3 one, but is less sopisticated in what it can produce. MF 3 allows you to create animated menus, where VS 8 does not (will VS 9?). You can also use a mixture of both Field Order A and B (Lower and Upper Field First). And MF 3 produces slide shows with absolutely no hassles, whereas VS 8 causes a lot of people a lot of headaches in this area. You can also set the slideshow in MF3 to fit exactly to the length of the background music you choose. VS 8 certainly does not. There are other differences, but these are enough to make me use both programs.

And I hasten to add that I have absolutely nothing to do with Ulead apart from using their programs!!

1. You right! The UVS9 has support motion menu now.

2. UVS9 provide slideshow wizard now, but different with DMF4.
In Movie wizard of UVS9, it includes the slideshow wizard.
User can insert images and choose one edit style. (like UVS8)
Then the wizard will add Pan&Zoom ( or Smart Pan&Zoom, the new feature in UVS9 ), background music, and edit style automatically.

In DMF4, just like the DMF3, also provide a slideshow wizard.
User can add one or more slideshow title in DMF4.
It also provide Pan&Zoom (no smart Pan&Zoom), and it can assign different background music for each image. (UVS9 can not do it).

Except for the authoring tool, DMF also provide the function for burning data, music. And it provide Ulead DVD player.
Although the DMF can not do video editing, but it can do simple video edit in authoring tool, including transition effect, text effect, and replace audio.
But all the effects is simpler. for example, text effect can not multiple input. It can only input one text at one time.
Besides, all the item where in menu can be moved as user wish in DMF4.
It's the new feature in DMF4 and UVS9 can not do it.

UVS9 is special for video editing tool, and the authoring tool function is not powerful than DMF4.

If you do not need to do video editing, I suggest you buy DMF4.
Most basic function in DMF4 is enough. For example, trim video, multi-trim video, simple video edit (very simple).

But if you need more than video editing function, I suggest you can choose UVS9. For example, DMF4 can make "Pan&Zoon" at image only.
But UVS9 can make "Pan&Zoon" at video or image. It also can apply video filter, reshape video, multiple-title...

You also can buy both two. You can produce the video file by UVS9, and make DVD disc by DMF4. ^_^

The April Fool is probably it will work! (sorry wishful thinking!)

However it is a shame that Ulead hasnt any planned dates in the UK.

Probably scared I might turn up and give em a piece of my mind!
