MF5+ crashes (simply terminates) as soon as I click on the filename of certain dvr-ms files in the "open video file" dialog. This happens for maybe 20% of the files I have tried - the rest work fine.
I have opened a support case but other than an answer which bore no relationship to my problem ("we don't support copy-protected files" - they are not!) I have heard nothing since.
The files play back fine and autodvrconvert has no problems converting them to mpeg2. This is on WinXP MCE SP2.
Does anybody have any ideas what the issue might be?
Many thanks!
MF5+ crash when adding dvr-ms files
I have no idea why this happens, but the more-compressed formats cause the most trouble. I've even had trouble with MPEG-2 sometimes.
If autodvrconvert creates a good (perfect) MPEG-2 file you should not have any trouble if you don't edit it. If you edit it (cut, splice, transitions, etc.) there is a slight chance of introducing sneaky corruption.
It's not unusual to have a file that plays-back OK, but causes trouble when you try to edit or convert it. I assume there is a small defect in the video data-structure... I call it "sneaky" corruption. The files play back fine...
In that case, you might be better-off converting it to MPEG-2 before bringing it into Movie Factory. Assuming you are making a DVD, the file will have to be converted to MPEG-2 sooner or later anyway....autodvrconvert has no problems converting them to mpeg2.
