Working With Selections

How do I work with selections in PI 12? I can activate a selection, but in the selections menu all the options are grayed out.

What type of source image? It usually works and looks like this

I believe it was called an object. I wasn't working with a photo. Mine didn't look like yours; because, everything was grayed out.

Yours is not a selection. You have just created a shape. The properties of that shape are modified in a different area, the tool bar just above the work space and in the tool setting area on the right hand side where the EP resides.

So the selections don't work the way the do in programs like PS and PSP? I'm not complaining, just trying to figure how things work. I just bought PI about 2 days ago.

I'm glad they don't more often than not. You need to use the selection tool to create a selection on which you can use the option found in selections. A shape you just drew is not a selection, it is an object or what you would call a layer in PS. In PI you don't need to create a new layer. Any object you create or import automatically is a new layer.
