Problem with Main Title
Well, I've almost finished my project - I have music, sub titles, end credits, transitions etc and I'm really pleased with how's it's coming along, but I'm having a big problem with getting the title at the begining of the show which runs before the actual film footage starts. I've read the relevant part in the manual and watched the tutorials, but it doesn't help with my problem - any suggestions?

Ok you have a choice either superimpose your title over your film clip or add a 'Colour' clip with the Title on that. I'll cover the latter the former is similar
(a)Below the word 'Tools' top left - clk the drop down arrow - select 'colour'
drag and drop a suitable colour onto the 'timeline' before your first clip.
(b) Now click on title and you'll see in 'Preview' " Double click here to add title" do so
Type in your word sentence etc.
(c) Once you've typed a word in the title box you can resize it by clicking outside the box the box frame will change you can now move the box around or reize by placing your mouse over the small yellow squaresand dragging.
(d) You can create additional title boxes in the same window by double clicking an empty space in the preview window.
(e) Next to the preview window you will see a lot of additional options including 'Animation' Tab.
(f) Once your happy with your title You can then move your Music clip by clicking and dragging it to the beggining of your timeline.

title
Hi-
To add to Roy's excellent advice...
You can also use a still as a backdrop for the title that captures the mood of the video and then go into the video. You can make it last as long as your want to coincide with the title animation.
Microsoft Gallery has a pretty good selection of photos that you can download or you can use one of your own.

For a Christmas video, I used a photo of a colorful window looking in and panned to the upper right with the title superimposed. So the still moved and the title stayed put.
Also, for birthdays, Ulead content includes a short avi with balloons moving up that is nice and you can set your title to animate up to correspond with the "cards".
If you like the countdown timer from old movies, you can download some styles for free as part of the Creativity Fun Pack on the Microsoft website.
