What can I use with Vista?
What can I use with Vista?
I bought DVD Workshop 2 recently thinking, obviously mistakenly, that it would work with Vista. It doesn't appear to work very well at all.
So, can anyone recommend some decent DVD authoring software that DOES work with Vista?

Since this is an interVideo*Ulead Web board I can only recomend trying their latest release DVD MF6 +. However they do not have the TBYB version posted yet..
There are some good DVD authoring programs by other manufacturers, just search using google for DVD authoring and you should get a few ideas. Just think about the "big" names in editing apps, either video or imaging. They also will have a DVD authoring program..

Just bear in mind, do you want to use templates or design your own menu's.vidoman wrote:There are some good DVD authoring programs by other manufacturers, just search using google for DVD authoring and you should get a few ideas. DVDMF,VS and the like are fine for templates.
DVDWS lets you build menus your way, as does Sony DVD Architect Studio 4, but both are not compatible (yet!) with Vista.
DVDLab, however has both of these bases covered (and is relatively cheap)
Of course other DVD authoring programs are available.
Or you could wait for DVDWS3 !!!

Probably from Ulead's web site, which says that "Ulead is committed to delivering Vista support for all its major products" and that "customers can rest assured that when they buy a new Vista PC, or upgrade their current one, Ulead software will remain their best choice for quality, ease of use, performance and value." That same page also says that existing products either support Vista, or will with a patch. Version 2 of DVD WS is the current version, so I assumed it fell into this category.heinz-oz wrote:@ParrotHead
Where on earth did you get the notion that an old program like DVD WS2 would work with VISTA?
DWS Vista attempt and some results.

I tried this for DWS 2 with the .232 update.
(1) with no compatibility changes, dws can open a project created in Win XP, and successfully build a DVD folder with video and audio. I have not used DWS to burn DVDs for sometime since it is not reliable. While it once worked [with update .232] it became flakey over time and no amount of fiddling could get it to work. I have recently been using Nero 7 to write the DVD folders created by DWS very reliably.
(2) despite using Win XP SP2 settings, and disabling themes and desktop whatever it is, EDIT in DWS does not crash, but does not display the video or play the audio correctly. Chapter points can be set however.
(3) The menu wizard can be run on a project with two clips, and the menus are apparently created correctly. However, playing the menus causes the program to crash.

Hi,
i work with Windows Vista 64. To get DVDWS2 to display the mpeg files properly i added the d3drm.dll to my system32 and SysWOW64 directory (i took them from a Windows X64 installation). 32 bit user would probably need the file in system32 from a 32 bit Windows version. The mpeg files look okay, but there is no audio.
Elpedro.

It is not true that all new computers come with Vista. I bought one this week for a friend and I asked that it come with XP - and it did! You get what you ask for! (And it was cheaper!)
I uninstalled Vista from the one computer I had it on because it is not mature and was causing endless hassle.

Ditto, I just purchased a new laptop, Fujitsu/Siemens Amilo, asked for XP and got it in two days.
Remember the customer is king and they are there to SELL you things, not to deploy Vista, so you just ask and like they say "JUST SAY NO".
I prefer passing on Vista and VS11, which doesn't seem to provide anything essential, and keep using DVDWS2 and Cool Production Studio...

This my understanding of it.
I have been proven wrong on several occasions in my life. It's not going to improve.
