Trouble importing DVD chapters

Post by MPH711 »

I have a DVD with music videos on it (not protected). Ever since I upgraded to VideoStudio 10 Plus I seem to be having problems. When I go to import something from the disc and screen comes on to "Import" or "Import Folder". After I select one it reads the disc (about 15 seconds) then as always comes up with a preview area that shows the chapters. This is where you can click on a box to select a chapter & then preview that you picked the right chapter and then import it. However, when I click on a chapter that I would like to import (and preview) I get the "hourglass" on my computer like it is reading it...but it never changes (I gave it 10 minutes...it's a 2 minute chapter it's reading) from there and I need to force a quit to get out of it.

I have used this import feature many times but never really had a problem before 10 Plus. Any suggestions?

Where has the DVD come from? DVD recorder, friend's PC, etc.

Do you get the same results if you copy (using drag/drop) the folders from the DVD to your PC's hard drive and import from there?

Someone made this DVD for me with music videos...however it's happening on a number of DVD's I have tried.

I haven't tried the drop & drag method. Do I go to My Computer > DVD Drive > open it to see files & then what?

Just copy the DVD folder from the DVD to your HD. Then from VS, use the same Import function, but you'll be importing from the folder on your HD instead of the folder on the DVD.

If you have VS9, you can try it, but I'd guess it has something to do with this particular DVD.

You can also try VOB 2 MPG (Free!!!).

Another tool you can try is VTSfix (Free!!!).

You can also try directly opening the VOB file with Video Studio. (You might need to copy it to your hard drive and rename it to .MPG.) Since it's a very short program, it's probably contained on a single VOB file. That should give you better odds with this "old trick".

Are you sure that is the correct link to get the .dll file? It was a file with videos.

Also depending on how the dvd was created it may be impossible.
Many dvd's that have been re-encoded using dvd shrink or nero recode alter the mpeg2 file so it's playble but not editable anymore.
Something to consider when your project is over 4gigs and you use dvd shrink or nero recode to fit the video onto a single layered dvd. They are hard to import & edit after these programs finish re-encoding them.

I did not find a file like that on my computer. I went ahead and downloaded the file and put it where you said to...then I tried to import a DVD again. The same thing as before happens.

Did you try the other suggestions from earlier in this thread - FixVTS (which solved the problem for me) or Vob2Mpg?

A point to remember with the VOB to MPG trick is if your video extends over more than one VOB there will be a slight (noticeable) glitch at the join.

Why use VOB to Mpeg when VS can import VOB's directly and extract the mpeg2 file from within the vob container, just curious.
