Smart Compositor Crashes - Are there PAL templates?

Post by saltire1320 »

I see in an earlier thread that someone has similar problems to me in that half of the SC templates cause a system crash (Romantic, Music Videos and others).
It was put down to the fact that the templates are in NTSC format but why is it that some crash the system and some don't. It is extremely frusatrating because I am not getting the full benefit of SC.
Can any one help?
Is there a way to stop this?
Are there any other PAL users experiencing the same?

Do you have any idea what could be wrong Steve?
It doesn't happen with all of them, about half actually.
It is very frustrating. I particularly want to use the "Romantic" templates but it's a no go I'm afraid.

I have found the NTSC templates just display a little wrong on my PAL system. Because NTSC has less lines than PAL the X/Y coordinates are out. I have never had it crash the system though, but I agree, there should be PAL versions of the templates.

The whole point of SC is that you simply replace the original clips/images etc. with your own. These can be in PAL and it works 100% better. That having been said, I appealed for PAL templates more than once during beta testing. I just checked through and I sent 4 messages appealing for PAL templates, the first as long ago as 9 July 2005. Reply? none really except that the NTSC templates work in PAL. Which they do, but with a small distortion.

Personally, I hardly ever use SC (I used it on a recent PAL project, when I was feeling lazy). I much prefer working up something similar on a sub-timeline from scratch. That way, a) there are no constraints b), there is no distortion, as it is 100% PAL, c) everything is relevant to the project. OK, it may take 30 minutes longer than using SC but even that isn't certain, as fitting into the template constraints and modifying things is quite time-consuming.
