Ulead encoder

Post by vernerdrost »

Resently when I save/share a video file as a MPEG1 the Encoder driver says: "UleadMPEG.Now encoder" in the Video Save Options. The pull down does not give you any other options of encoders. The problem is that when others try to open my MPEG1 files they cannot read it and get a error message saying they do not have the right codex to run this file. They are trying to open it with Windows Media Player lattest version.
Before they could read the MPEG1 files I saved now they cannot. I used not not have this "UleadMPEG.Now encoder" in the Encoder driver. Instead it simple said MPEG1. Any solutions as to how to change this encoder to one others can read?

Ulead codec problems

Post by vernerdrost »

Ulead uses their own Codec pack. The Ulead phone support guy claims that they will not interfere and are compatible with anything that Windows Media Player runs. I beg to differ. I also noticed that my DVDs started crashing and the WMF error message said that uldvdvideo.ax was part of the problem (that is Ulead's codec) so I totally uninstaller Ulead Video Studio 10 and ¡§vualah¡¨ now Window Media Player is running fine. I suspect that ulead¡¦s audio codec has been encoding the MPEG1 files in a way that others can not play them in WMF because when I create the file without sound they can play it. So my conclusion has to be some incompatibility between Ulead¡¦s codecs and Window Media Player. For all it¡¦s worth. Now, as for a solution, not sure yet. I would suggest that Ulead's tec support should look into this but the guy I talked to was not very open to suggestion in fact quite dry to say the least.

My conclusion is that we all most be using it wrongly because we don't have that problem. Then again, who is still using mpeg1? I used to produce svcd disks (mpeg1) with this encoder and the discs play on players which can play that format.

I would rather suspect that the problem players are missing a codec. mpeg1 is mpeg1, regardless of which encoder is used.

What are your project settings when you create these clips?

MPEG 1

Post by vernerdrost »

I need to use MPEG1 because I am creating video loops for a Presentation program called MediaShout. MediaShout uses WMPlayer as it's default player. Since my last post I fixed my DVD problem by deleting Ulead altogether (all traces of it from the registry), then I installed WinDVD 5, then I reinstalled Ulead VS10. But I still have the problem that the MPEG1 files I create using ULEAD will not play in other computers if they have stereo sound in them. The problem seems to be with mpeg-1 layer 2 audio codec. I understand what you are saying re MPEG1 is an MPEG1 but I created with ULEAD three MPEG1 files: One in stereo, one in mono and one without sound (same video) and they all played in other peoples WMP except the stereo one.

The Steroe file is:
MPEG1 (no compresion)
720 x 480 pic
0xc0:48000Hz 224 kb/s tot , Stereo

It could be that WMP does not know where to find the codec to play mpeg-1 layer 2 audio type files. I have spent hours trying to fix this problem and this whole codec thing has become quite the frustration.

Thanks for any suggestions! They would be greatly appreciated.

There is no mpeg1 with no compression, mpeg is a compression codec. It could well be that the problem is only a missing codec on the machines which cannot play this file. What is the source format?

Check the audio codecs' loaded on your machine and compare these with the ones on the problem machines.

At what bitrate did you encode these mpeg1 files?

MPGE1

Post by vernerdrost »

Sorry I should have been more specific regarding the MPEG1 having no compresion. What I ment is that I save the quality at 100% (instead of the 70% it defaults to).

Now you got me thinking:
Re Source format
Does the source make a difference once it has been imported into VS10? I thought that when you saved it as a MPEG1 that was it, anything that could play an MPEG1 should play it.

Re Codec in the other machine
Is there a simple way to copy the Codec in my machine over to the other machine if the audio codec in my machine is missing in theirs?

The bit rate might be a little high: 224

Really appreciate your help

Finally found a solution

Post by vernerdrost »

I have been a couple of months trying to resolve this issue installing and uninstalling a variety of codec in the destination computer that would not run the MPEG1 videos with sound produced in Ulead VS10+ (I even brought in a couple of tech guys to help me resolve the problem). I finally tried one last thing, I installed Ulead VS10+ in the destination computer and that resolved it all. All videos created in my Ulead VS10+ now play properly in the destination computer. Whatever codec Ulead was using to create MPEG1 videos was not compatible with any codec pack I had installed in the destination computer. I am not sure now to find what Codec Ulead uses but it sure would be nice if they could post such information, though if they have I have never found it and tech support has never offered it to me. No one on this forum seemed to be able to offer me any solutions either though several did try. I am only posting this in case someone else even runs across this same issue.
