Relinking After Moving Image/Sound Files

Post by frank1492 »

When I did my project, there were a couple of images that resided on a CD and were not copied onto the hard drive. Now of course when the CD is removed I get the relinking message when I go to work on the project and the images are not accessible. (I have been using the "skip" option.)
At this point what I would like to do is copy the files to the hard drive so I can remove the CD permanently, but I am nervous about this as I am afraid the project will not be able to properly access them.
Could someone please guide me through this process, or is it safer to just continue using the CD?
Thanks for help. I'm sure this topic is covered somewhere but the keywords which I tried yielded too many topics to read through.

Copy the images (and sound files) from the CD to a place on your hard drive. I suggest that you create a new folder and copy them there.

REMOVE the CD.

Start VS, load the project (use skip when it tells you to relink) then make a copy of the project ('save as' a different name).

Reload the original project and when VS tells you to relink, relink the image (or sound file) from the folder on you hard drive where the image/sound file is (you may have to do this for every image/sound file). Save the project.

All should now be ok. You can test and prove this by loading the original project and you should now NOT get those warnings.

Hi, put the image CD in cd Drive hold down 'Shift Key' for 20 seconds to prevent CD running. Double click on 'my Computer' look for your CD players icon (which should be displaying cd icon) Right clk- 'Explore'-Right clk the image file you want- from drop down list- mouse over 'Send To' - from list Select Folder ( My Docs/Pics etc) or 'New Folder' and clk ok. File will now be copied there. Remove CD. Go into Ulead open your project use the relink browse button to find your file and press re-link.

Thanks to both. I assume John is suggesting that a copy be made before relinking as a safety step?
BTW could anybody explain why, despite the fact that I repeatedly ask that I be notified at my e-mail address when I receive replies, I never am?
I seem to have this problem with other forums to which I am subscribed as well. Am I missing something?
Thanks again for your help!

Frank, Yes the copy is just a safety step in case of a stuff up.
As Trevor points out, many if not all now don't receive an email when a reply is posted.
From what I have read we can probably thank a hacker for this (I can't state here what I would do with the hacker if I ever met him).
