anyone shed light onto this? - literally!

So, another day, another unforseen problem with VS!

My mini project, consisting of a handful of edits and transitions is saved. Today, as i have done many times this last week, have opened up my project to work on it a little more - only to find that when i play it back i can hear it but not seen anything, also its impossible to move the timeline myself - it seems to want only to start from the beginning of my project..Im able to view my clips ( or putting it in clip mode ) but in 'project mode' it plays like it should except the picture is black.

I havent saved any different project setting to my knowledge, so why would my project decide to now play with no picture ( seeing the timeline move across my project, seems to jump as well! )..any intellectual thoughts on this fustrating ( but im sure, easily solved) problem??
