"source file had some problems" (5003)

Post by kimtexn »

I just installed VideoStudio 8 SE on a new Windows XP SP2 machine and am having exactly the same problem. This happened when I tried to burn a video file that I captured in DVD format from within VS 8 SE. When I get to the burn part, it whirs away for awhile, creating various files and directories, than at the exact moment before the actual burn starts, I get the above message. When I click OK, I then get a second message that says "Cannot open file" [14252:1:0]. After several tries, I always get the same messages, but not the same numbers in brackets.

I've scoured the tech support area and installed the one update that I could find, with the same results.

I received this software package bundled with a capture card (Winfast TV2000 XP Expert). Also bundled with the package was ULead DVD Movie Factory SE. Coincidently, it gives exactly the same behavior at the burn stage. I've also installed any updates that I could find for it.

The file that I can capture gives these attributes:

Video Type: MPEG-2 video, upper field first
Total Frames: 92,412 Frame(s)
Attributes: 24 bits, 720X480, 4:3
Frame Rate: 29.970 frames/sec
Data Rate: Variable bit rate (max 6000 kbps)

Audio type: MPEG audio layer 2 files
Attributes: 48000 HZ, 16 bit, stereo
Layer:2
Bit Rate: 224 kbps

The file(s) I have captured can be played perfectly with Windows Media Player. The files left behind in the directory created by VS 8 SE after the burn fails can be played perfectly in WinDVD or PowerDVD by clicking on VIDEO_TS.IFO in one of the subdirectories under the BurnTMP directory.

I see that the temporary directories created by VS 8 SE are in my My Documents folder. I don't see any way to change that behavior, but I wonder if this is somehow related to the problem?

BTW, after a day of frustration, I downloaded TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6 as a 30-day trial to see if I could get it to work. It worked perfectly! I'd just switch to it, but I don't want to have to pay for software to replace defective software that came with my capture card. I also like the ability to add soundtracks with VS 8 SE. I haven't yet noticed a way to do it in TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I have the same exact problem. (Oh well) Right out of the box with the TVcapture card and I CANNOT burn ANY DVD's. (Nero works great, but DMF does not)
