google earth capture into VS

Post by lakewud »

Was just wondering, any followers of the Google Earth out there?

Was just wanting to add a map of sorts from GEarth and bring it into VS?...but cant seem to take my desired piece from GE and save/capture it etc..Is this possible?

Or must you buy the thing before your able to capture footage from Google Earth.

Thanks

I used a Google Earth image in a project I did. I actually saved it as a jpeg image (File>Save Image) first. I then inserted that into my VS project, and used the Pan & Zoom filter to simulate movement. Looked pretty good for the effect I was going for. Now if your intention is to start with the Earth and zoom in to your house...

Thanks BL, at least i know its kind of do-able. However, was hoping for the 'long distance -flyover-effect'.

Was looking on UTube, saw your logo there BL, any other vid examples? I keep on looking, typing ulead home movie etc etc...most i find are teenagers acting James Bond etc, anyone know any worthwhile movie examples, some nice effect, well edited story i can find?

Most of my stuff is longer than 10 minutes, which is their limit. You can apply for a 10+ minute account, but it is unavailable at the moment. As soon as I can get that I'll put many more samples up. Thanks for the interest.

The Pro version is $400 - that gives you the ability to capture MPG videos of your tours. I thought it was in the "Plus" version but I was wrong.
There are a bunch of hacks out there for grabbing the video from the app, but I have never tried any of them.
I thought I would try one: use the S-Video on the graphics card to record onto the video recorder.
This worked perfectly. I connected the TRV320 (with S-Video) to the Graphics card... redirected output to the camera and started a GE session. The recording was just fine. I cropped the image to get rid of the extraneous stuff...to about 75-percent in both axis (and centered on the lower left corner of the image window.) I have a fast internet connection so the refresh of the imagery is pretty quick- even so, as you are panning around, you ought to go slow in order to get the best result on the image refresh.
This was interesting and I am glad you asked.

You could try Camtasia Studio or alternatively Fraps.

As Steve suggested I tried Camtasia with limited success.
You need a fast internet connection and a fast PC (as it will be running two applications - Google and Camtasia) otherwise you will end up with jerky motion like I did. I have a cable internet connection with P4 2.4Ghz processor.

I have done that in Fraps. I was a Keyhole member before Google screwed thing up, but I followed a rail line out of Chicago to Aurora making 3 second station stops at each station along the line. Yes, you need a high speed connection and better yet, save the path and run it so most is in your cache.

Took a few tries but it will work.

You can also do it another way by creating a Google style animation from ordinary maps.

Here is an example I used when I created a DVD of a friends Holiday to Rhodes.

Nice work, Steve. I also took a look at some of your other videos there. I like the way you did the intro in the Telford one too.
How did you do the travel line in the beginning of the travel map?

Thanks,
Vicki
