Activation WInDVD8

Post by girly »

Can anyone help please as Intervideo tech support do not reply (or have not in 2 weeks) despite sending 3 support requests.

I am trying to activate the trial version but keep getting an error mesage saying the program has encounted a problem and need to close. I have downloaded a patch which is supposed to help but it doesn't.

Any ideas??

Sorry I'm not familiar with Intervideo products such as their WinDVD 8. I did find on the Intervideo website, a step-by-step tutorial for activating the product. Did you follow this?

I have a problem with activating WinDVD8 too.
I¡¬m getting an error message, that ther was an internal error and i should contact the tech. support.

I wrote them twice, but got no answer.

Does anyone know, how to fix this error.
I purchased it 2 weeks ago, but couldn¡¬t run it once.

I don't know if this even applies to your case, but if you have Vista, you need to either turn off UAC (User Account Control) and then register, or right click the application and 'run as administrator' and then register. The second option is a lot simpler, so I would go with that.

If you're running something else, then I'm sorry. I don't know what to do.

Shame this has to be done because it takes the protection away from the operating system (Vista).
Finally (MS_Vista) has done something that Mac & Linux has done for years, which is when you log in and run programs you are always a user.
This way the operating system is protected, you the user do not have the rights to alter system files (unless your an administrator).

Maybe that's what the WinDvd Patch fixes, because you shouldn't run a OS sytem as the administrator or root, always a user (unless you need to perform administrative tasks).

They need to fix this in WinDvd8 if that's the only way it can run.

Run as Administrator worked for me also. Shame they don't add this to the Activation instructions page.

I had this problem and it took 3 attempts at emailing tech support. Eventually this is their answer and it worked:

Apply the patch (available on our website) then try then to execute the following reinstallation procedure. If the patch won't work on the first attempt and prompted you that it cannot locate your copy of WinDVD 8, it is recommended that you reapply the patch after you perform the stated procedure below:

1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to tools\folder option\advance setting to check "show hidden files and folders".
2. Clean up temp files from\Start menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Disk Cleanup.
3. Go to "C:\Program Files\InterVideo"
4. Delete the folder for "DVD8".
5. Delete the following folders:
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\InterVideo"
"C:\Program file\InterVideo\Common\Bin"
7. Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information"
8. Delete the folders "{20471B27-D702-4FE8-8DEC-0702CC8C0A85}"
9. Go to Start-->Run and type "regedit"
10. Go to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\InterVideo"
11. Delete the folder "DVD8"
12. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\InterVideo\"
13. Delete the folder "DVD8"
14. Close "Regedit"
15. Restart Windows then reinstall WinDVD 8

Notes:
1. You need to have "Administrator" privileges on your computer. "Limited" or "Guest" accounts won't let InterVideo software install or run properly on your computer.
2. Please disable Windows Firewall (from the Control Panel) and/or your personal firewall before running the installation.

Please download and install the patch below.

Note that this update patch is applicable only to retail webtrial build of WinDVD 8.

Procedure:
1. After installation of WinDVD 8. Install the MFC patch
2. Reactivate WinDVD 8. Be sure to use the activation details found on your confirmation email. The activation key can also be retrieved by logging-in to Intervideo's membership page.
3. Use WinZip or WinRar to extract the zipped file.

Choose only one:

The links above seem to be dead.

Has this been rolled into the latest 'trial' donwloaded installer?

Hi

I've no idea why the links don't work but it was a while ago I was sent them. It could be as you said it's been incorporated into the download installer for the trial but don't take my word for that. Sorry I hope you find a solution.

Must have been busy servers.

The zip file won't download, but the .exe just did.

We'll see if it solves the problem.

Nope, did not fix the root problem.

I sucessfuly activate, it says to please re-launch win-DVD, then it says 'Your trial version has expired' and wants to activate. I am caught in an infitnite loop with WinDVD.

Here's a suggestion to the developers: If the user sucessfully actives, then PLEASE reset all trial counters and other stuff you check for at startup.

Any sugggestions besides a full re-install of the OS?
