Why is my clip not saving as a still image in VS10?

Are you in Clip or Project mode? You must be in Clip mode in order to save as an image.

Maybe because you are not clicking the right thing at the right time - maybe because you are looking for it in the wrong place - maybe you have set your preference to .bmp and your searching for a .jpg etc. etc.
With the frame you want to save showing in the preview window :-
if you are in "Clip" mode then click on "Clip >> "Save as Still Image" - OR click on "Save as Still Image" in the Video Information pane above the right hand end of your timeline.
If you are in "Project" mode click on "Tools >> Save Current Frame as Image"
The image will be saved as a .bmp or a .jpg according to your setting in 'Preferences' in the working folder which you have specified in 'Preferences'
If this does not solve your problem please provide more information about what you are doing and about your video.
