capture speeds up video after one hour

Post by stjimm »

I am using Video Studio 10+ . My computer is a Dell E520 Dimension with Intel Pentium D processor 820 with Dual Core Technology (2.8GHz, 800FSB); 2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533Hz and 250 GB hard drive. I capture video from a digital and analog camera. I have read and used "From Camcorder to DVD with Video Studio" to help me with capturing videos and making dvds, with good success.
One problem though is that if the video I am capturing is over one hour in length, upon playing the captured video, the segments of video that are greater than one hour from the beginning, run faster than normal. It seems as though the speed of the video is almost twice as fast as normal. I can get around this by capturing video in one hour segments, but was wondering why this condition might occur. I would like to capture the whole video from camera without having to stop after one hour and then start another file for the remaining tape.
Any idea why this condition may be occurring?

Thanks

Please supply more information such as what type of file are you capturing to (AVI or MPEG).
Also what file system are you using FAT32 or NTFS

I am using NTFS file. I have tried capturing AVI, DVD with the same result.

The anlaog tape is one from 1993. I am not sure if it is long play or not. But it plays normally on the VCR (i.e. no eratic speeds). I have the VCR connected to a Sony Handycam which is connected to my PC using a IEEE 1394 cable. I have noticed this problem of eratic video capturing also when I am capturing a digital video from the Sony Handycam only (i.e. not connected to a VCR with an analog tape) using the 1394 cable.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would suspect your Sony gets impatient and wants it over and done with. :?
I have never heard of capture speeding up except if the tape would suddenly start running faster. With digital video, also analog passed through a digital video camera is digital, the speed is fixed at the frame rate of the TV standard. In your case that would be NTSC at 29.97 fps.

If the clip starts to accelerate it would indicate missing frames. The movement in the clips should get a bit erratic as well then.

Maybe your capture is dropping frames after a while because your PC is about to snuff it or runs out of resources.

Please explain "snuff it" or "run out of resources".
