PhotoImpact XL shuts down when I try to load jpg

Post by Dinksmallwood »

Hello,

I'm from Germany. And in addition I'm really in despair...
I have PhotoImpact XL (I don't know if this is a special german version because I couldn't find posts about it).
My system is WinXP (with all new patches)
I already searched several hours in the internet but I can't find a solution for my problem. :(

Since 5 days this happens when I try to open jpg-pictures:
- the picture opens
- after a few seconds PI XL shuts down with an error message

I have no idea what causes this problem. I already used the WinXP system restore points (I hope this is the right english word for it) and step by step I went back 14 days in the system but the error still happens.

I read on several websites that some PI-users have similar problems with other versions of PI (but unfortunately nobody found a solution) so I thought perhaps one of you already heard of this strange error and can help me.

Here's what the error message says:
Problem:
AppName: iedit.exe
AppVer: 8.5.0.0
ModName: pidm_browse.dll
ModVer. 8.5.0.0
Offset: 00029f04

Thanks in advance...

Welcome to the forums,

It would seem by the error message generated that a DLL file has become corrupt. Try doing a complete un-install/re-install. Ulead programs leave a lot of files behind. So just doing a simple add/remove programs from the control panel and then re-installing may not correct some issues. Instructions can be found here : Re-installation of Ulead Products
AppName: iedit.exe
This is the executable file that launches PhotoImapact. It is the same for all versions.
AppVer: 8.5.0.0
This is the version of PhotoImpact that you are running, ie; PI XL is PI 8.5
ModName: pidm_browse.dll
This is the file that is causing the problem. About the only way I know to replace the file is to do the full uninstall/reinstall.

Not being familiar with this version of PI, I'm unaware if it uses the EasyPalette Libraries and Galleries like PI-11 or 12. If so, then before uninstalling make sure you backup any custom libraries, galleries that you may have. These are generally found under the Ulead.dat folder, which is commonly located: C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead.dat.
