Installing filters

I am trying to add additional filters to my current PI 11 program. Am I restricted to 8 additional filters as defined in the preference>plug-in window?? I am now trying to add additional sets of plug-ins beyond the 8 already installed but can¡¦t get them to show up in my effects window. Suggestions or help of any kind would be appreciated. PAT
